Struggling to find jobs I'm drawn to

I'm looking for a job now and as it's Easter and I'm nearly finished with my training I'm seeing if I can find a job. It's so difficult.

I can't seem to find or see anything I'd want to apply to.

What do I do? So many people have secured jobs and now I'm stressing. Even my school I'm at sent an email around how they're doing references. I bumped into the deputy head of the school before Easter who said "how's the job search going" I felt so nervous to even say I literally can't find a thing.

Are you secondary ( I think so if I remember rightly !)? Some subjects have more jobs available than others. It's still relatively early - the final resignation date is May 31st to leave in summer so there will be more jobs coming up.

My current NQT got his job with us in May last year after a couple of interviews elsewhere.

In terms of jobs that appeal - I would say, try not to narrow your choice too much. All schools have their pros and cons and sometimes, the "perfect" school may not have a job. Or, you may 'grow into' a school.

When I got my NQT job, I thought it was the perfect place as it was a 6th form college. It was fine and I had no major issues there -passed NQT no problem and did a few more years but it wasn't perfect for a whole host of reasons.

When I got my current job for an Easter start, I spent the first term seriously wondering if I had made a terrible mistake. Staffing was unstable and had been for a while so there were a few issues in the department. I stuck it out and now, 5 years and 2 promotions later, I couldn't be happier.

If you'd asked me 5 years ago if I'd still be there, I'd have said no as I thought I would give it a year and move on. After two terms though, something clicked and despite us still having some issues, I wanted to be part of the team that improved things for the staff and the kids.

Cast your net wide and look at all schools with an open mind. Even if you take a job in a school which you think isn't the perfect one for you, you may end up really liking it. If you don't, you can move on.

Good luck!
