I’m just curious, with everything that has gone on with the pandemic and the extra workload/stress. Anyone planning of leaving teaching this year for good or taking a break?

There was a thread about this here pretty recently, lots of recipes saying yes, people either doing early retirement or going into government jobs.

I'm currently going a PGCE and have spoken to quote a lot of people who got QTS last year and haven't been able to get NQT jobs. So it doesn't seem like people are leaving teaching yet anyway but lots talking about it

I went at Christmas. Took early retirement as teaching in my school was no longer the fulfilling, happy experience it used to be. Thirty years of a career ended.

Yes, I think there’s plenty of us. I’ve got six days left in the classroom, can’t wait to get my life back. Starting a new job next month. I’m under no illusion that I’ll still be working hard, but need a break from the endless, exhausting, grinding shitstorm that is teaching. I’m burned out and have nothing left.

I’ll miss the kids. They were never the problem.

I do envy you picklespark, I will be leaving at the end of the summer term. Feels like a life time away.

How long have you been teaching for?

Ah good for you, Lyla, it will go quicker than you think. What will you be doing next?

7 years.

I'm supposed to be going back after Easter, following maternity leave, but I'm thinking of handing my notice in. I've been in teaching for 20 years, and I dont think I can face it any more, particularly because of the pandemic.
I would love to go into early years (currently secondary), so going to see what I can do.

I'm leaving. Counting the days. I would feel sad but to be honest I'm too exhausted.

I’m leaving in the summer. I feel giddy with excitement every time I think about pissing off out of there. I too shall miss the kids - they’re wonderful and funny and I feel privileged to have taught them. Weekend working, pointless meetings and all the other bullshit.... well, good riddance!

I've got my pension meeting with Wesleyan in the Easter holidays. My plan is to leave at the end of the year when my contract ends - a year early. Very excited - but may need to do a few days supply each month.
I'm a member of a FB group about life after teaching that has over fifteen thousand members. That in itself speaks volumes. The experiences of so many teachers who are being bullied in awful toxic schools is just tragic.😢
