D&T Food Technology teaching

I am considering doing a PGCE in Food Technology as this was a subject I did for my degree and I was strong in at school. I do have some concerns though. Is it difficult trying to manage the health and safety of multiple pupils during cookery lessons? I have read that you may have to teach textiles too or other subjects so it's a bit like a jack of all trades. I don't know what the career prospects are like as you don't see many jobs advertised for food technology teachers and I don't want to retrain and then have no opportunities at the end. I know some people think that food technology teaching is easy but I have read things which is not the case.

None of our DT teachers only teaches their specialism. The one who worked in a Michelin started restaurant has been known to teach textiles... and our electronics teacher also had art one year.

Thanks @MrsHamlet. I think I need to focus on a different career. I know I won't be happy teaching things I don't enjoy.

Realistically you're not going to get a DT post where you teach your specialism full time - schools rarely have the capacity for that.
The last trainee we had (who now works with us permanently) trained in ResMat but teaches that, plus food and textiles on a carousel. She's really very good at all of it.

I agree, as they got rid of A level Food Technology so there are more hours available to teach. I forgot they may ask to teach Resistant Materials, it's not for me.
