I am in my final year and hoping to secure a job for September. I have just started applying for jobs, how long does this process generally take? (I know it is unlikely I will get these jobs but I am curious!)
Do you normally hear if you have an interview after the closing date or before?
Also, I have heard so many NQTs not being able to secure jobs for years. If I can't secure a job for September I am planning on doing supply work until I get a full time position somewhere. What are your experiences in securing a job straight out of uni? Is it likely? What do you think the impact of COVID be on jobs? Thanks!

It really depends on where you live and what you teach. I struggled to get a job in Devon where I lived but the minute I looked further afield (3 hours away!) and was willing to move I got a job quickly.
I’ve always found out about interviews after the closing date, interview a week later then find out if you got it that day or the next.

Good luck!

I second cinnamonchips. It depends how much you want to secure a job, personally I know and have seen tonnes of jobs within 50 miles of where I live (we are recruiting teachers ourselves!).
I would really recommend maximising on your placement opportunities to put you in good stead e.g. you may be able to gain a glowing reference which will help you stand out- heck your placement school might even offer you a job or know someone who will!

Echo what others have said. It depends on the area. Rural Devon or Cornwall you might struggle but the next county along you could be fine.

Are you able to relocate? If so, be willing to cast the net wide.

Also, sometimes, trainees want to find jobs in schools similar to their placement school, which is understandable, but if you can be flexible on the type of school, that will help.

Good luck!
