You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff only – a sort of room of requirement. Baiters, haters, goaders, and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

Do not give the staffroom password to non-staff as it attracts the wrong sort of crowd.

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the booze is stashed - Thirsty Tuesdays, Fizz Fridays now in operation. Do not sit on the chairs and do wear a mask.

Would anyone else find that rude? I'm new to the department and their resources are all over the place in different drives and in filing cabinets etc. I have to be able to ask questions. I even put in the email to my hod when I was upset last week that I feel like people assume I know things that I don't and I often find myself searching for resources or wondering what unit people are referring to because they don't name it or whatever.

Bit fed up of putting up with rudeness.

noblegiraffe · 07/03/2021 12:07

Ours have been given 15 minute slots for their test. My job is going to be getting them to not hang around the school gates waiting for their mates.

I expect they will just move to the local park.

noblegiraffe · 07/03/2021 12:09

Have you got the balls for a 'did you mean to be so rude?' honey?

Did she actually tell you where the stuff was?

TheHoneyBadger · 07/03/2021 12:15

No I haven't but if the HOD and I are able to have our meeting I will bringing it up as a case in point. She's younger than me and I wouldn't say a rocket scientist yet tries to tut and talk down to me like I'm some kind of thick child.

I'm not letting stressing over that ruin my Sunday. I think if she tries to do it to my face again I will do the 'do you mean to be so rude?' thing. Well I'd like to think I will anyway.

chocolateisavegetable · 07/03/2021 12:22

Honey I would most certainly find that rude! Make sure you keep it, in case you need it as evidence at a later point.

PS thanks Staff

Saucery · 07/03/2021 12:25

I’ve never used “did you mean to be so rude?” Honey but I have said “oof, that came across a bit sharper than I’m sure you meant it to!” which worked well. As an alternative.

MrsHamlet · 07/03/2021 12:26

I absolutely do find that rude Honey

TheHoneyBadger · 07/03/2021 12:32

Glad it's not just me beginning to doubt myself. I 'think' it's normal to have to explain where resources are and what 'such and such' video you might be referring to when you have someone new in the department.

Ideally it's not necessary because you've centralised your resources on the system and you clearly link things so that the lesson plan, suggested power point and resources etc are all in one place - I've been doing a lot of adding things to the right folders etc as I've gone through the SOW this year as so much was missing and it seemed daft that everyone had to make their own copies of a slide or go off searching on another drive for the resource that was referred to on a slide and essential for the task etc..

HercwasanEnemyofEducation · 07/03/2021 12:33

Honey that is rude. I'll always take time to show people where stuff is etc because it saves time in the long run. I'd try and have a f2f conversation about it though as email tone may not be helpful here. Definitely something a HOD should deal with.

WhenSheWasBad · 07/03/2021 12:34

@Appuskidu

Do parents actually want 4 weeks at summer with no wriggle room?! Would love to start a poll but don’t have it in me today-too bloody stressed about going back.
I did an AIBU poll on this years ago. Reduced summer holiday with extra holiday at June and October.

If memory serves most people weren’t keen. It’s my preference but I have to accept I am very much in the minority - with parents and teachers.

GuyFawkesDay · 07/03/2021 12:41

Ugh, I am not looking forward to this week. It's going to be challenging.

I am really looking forward to seeing the kids and teaching but the logistics and admin. Meh.

JanFebAnyMonth · 07/03/2021 12:44

Poster on Data thread reports that HE stats already show there's a vast number of students who are not doing - or at least reporting - LFTs as they are supposed to be (presumably this was for pre Christmas). Pointing to the unlikelihood of parents bothering to do them/ go to the bother of setting up a NHS account to report them twice a week.

borntobequiet · 07/03/2021 12:49

Would anyone else find that rude?

I’d find that very rude. Most unprofessional. How horrible to have a colleague like that.

Piggywaspushed · 07/03/2021 13:16

What is this NHS account of which we speak? Is it that annoying App which I cannot activate? Or is it a separate covid related thing?

Honestly, all we have been told as teachers is 'come and get your box of stuff'.

Beachhuts90 · 07/03/2021 13:21

I would find that extremely rude Honey.

JanFebAnyMonth · 07/03/2021 13:24

I'd already registered on it for in school LFTs. O idea if you have to create a new account for home tests and you reporting it rather than school? Am guessing you do, and that parents will have to.

My kit instructions say go to
www.gov.uk/report-covid19-result

  • or you can do it via 119.
TheHoneyBadger · 07/03/2021 13:26

You guys save my sanity sometimes. It's all gotten a bit gas-lighty.

noblegiraffe · 07/03/2021 13:27

Well I just did my first home LFT and it was a pain in the arse. Had to set up a little lab.

Can’t see many parents doing that twice a week tbh.

EnemyOfEducationNo1 · 07/03/2021 13:28

Honey - yes extremely rude.
I've just done my first LFT. The "box of stuff" included fairly comprehensive instructions. I've created my login etc and reported my negative result... I hope I get quicker at it though as that was a huge faff

EnemyOfEducationNo1 · 07/03/2021 13:28

Ha! Jinx!

Saucery · 07/03/2021 13:31

I have no idea why they can’t make little pots that stand up rather than those pointy ones. Or sealed pots with the fluid already in.
I’ve got quicker over the last few weeks. Or more slapdash. Whevs.

HarrietDVane · 07/03/2021 13:33

That is very rude Honey - hopefully your HoD will agree that it is unacceptable. I don't get why people have to behave like that. The job is tough enough without being shafted by your colleagues! And surely if everyone has ready access to everything they need, the department will run more smoothly? Hmm

DreamingofBrie · 07/03/2021 13:33

I think it's rude, Honey. I can imagine if I spoke like that to a pupil their parent would be complaining about pretty sharpish. Especially if you haven't actually been told where stuff is in the first place!

Just out of curiosity.... do you think that person would have responded similarly to a male teacher? Someone said to me many many threads ago that women are held to much harsher standards (I think this is true in life).

CallmeHendricks · 07/03/2021 13:57

Any idea why the voting has been switched off though? Can you do that yourself in settings?
