I’ve been teaching for a while now. I used to lead EYFS at my previous school and was a different teacher- so much confidence and really enjoyed my job. I loved my HT- she believed in me and had a vision for me. I left because of family commitments and began working at a smaller school. The school is lovely but I miss EYFS terribly. I’ve had a conversation with my HT about my want to go into EYFS at this school but there’s no room for that to happen. I know that there is a job opp back at my previous school. It’s double the distance and it’s not to lead EYFS like I had before but it would be to go back into EYFS. Would you go back?

Hi, I was searching for help with my own teaching dilemma but wanted to reply after reading your post. I think that if you are even considering returning to your old school and describe your previous HT in such a way you should just do it. I felt like you just want or need someone to tell you to go for it. I'm currently doing 2 days as a class teacher where I'm the cover for the phase leaders PPA days. No extra responsibilities 'just' a class teacher but I'm happy and have the time for my family, I do however, have to keep reminding myself that moving up the ranks isn't my priority anymore or taking on extra responsibilities. Make yourself happy - thats priceless and if you can afford to apply to your old school and take a chance. Its not fair your current school are outright saying there's no room for movement there should be at least a max on years in one class to enable people to do CPD surely?
My dilemma is - what can I do in the next 2 years to enable me to get back into SLT roles as I have been a regular supply for last 6 years and feel I will be overlooked in the future because of my career gaps. Any advice greatly appreciated!
Good luck with it, and remember taking a step down doesn't mean you are less just changing your priorities for the time being

Thank you for your reply- I think you’re right, I just need someone else to tell me that!
I’d say, it’s all about getting into a school that for you and then purely proving yourself. It’s all about opportunities and building good relationships with your head and management. Xx
