I usually arrive at 7.30ish. I'm looking at arriving later after half term due to childcare commitments. I feel like I'm slacking off but some people don't arrive until 8.30. I'm primary.

8.20/8.30 - I have kids to drop off. Not much I can do.

Fallulah · 16/02/2021 09:11

About 7:40/7:50 ish. Lesson 1 starts at 8:30 (am secondary).

StaffRepFeistyClub · 16/02/2021 09:28

8am so I have a cup of tea and time at the photocopier.
When I was SLT I arrived at 7.15 - madness.

mrsnw · 16/02/2021 09:39

Is there any legal requirement time? I know full time is 32.5 hrs a week. Do you just fulfil those hours? Thank you

I arrive around 7.45 on the days I don’t have the DC. 8.15 on the days I do. My current school doesn’t have an official start time for staff (except to be there for meetings/lessons etc) but my precious two schools had a start time written in the staff handbook and counted as part of directed time.

FluffyPJs · 16/02/2021 10:09

Are you a teacher? Teachers don't have set hours! Sadly... I usually arrive at 7.50/8am and leave by 6, usually earlier. I obviously work in the evenings and weekends at home. I think the usual expectation is to arrive 30 mins before the kids do. To have time to be prepared and organised for your day.

MrsHamlet · 16/02/2021 10:18

We have to be on site at 8.40. I get in at 7.45 because I travel by train.

mrsnw · 16/02/2021 11:00

Yes, I'm a teacher. I've always started at 7.30 so have never really thought about hours etc before. It's funny our head a deputy rarely arrive before 8.30

7.30am nowadays because DS is old enough to be left and walk into school, so I can leave home when I like.

I like the quiet hour before school and to get set up for the day first thing in the morning. I could set up the night before and get in at 8.30am if I wanted, but I never feel like it after school/ meetings etc.

singsingbluesilver · 16/02/2021 12:50

I used to arrive at 7am every morning. It was the only way I could get set up for the day, access the photocopier, set cover work for anyone who was absent and answer my emails.

The HT on the other hand never arrived before 8.30.

TheJackieWeaver · 16/02/2021 12:51

“Are you a teacher? Teachers don't have set hours!”

Of course we do. We have our 1265 directed hours, which often include designated start and finish times. Then we just do many, many hours extra Grin

Subordinateclause · 16/02/2021 14:03

Between 7.30 and 8. Happier to be later now I work in a school with shorter queues for the photocopier! We have to be in by half 8 I think, although I'm not sure much would be said if we weren't as long as everything ran okay. I prefer to be in early rather than working after my dinner in the evening.

Timeturnerplease · 16/02/2021 16:48

7.30. Our childcare is in the same village as us, and I work in the next village so literally a six minute commute.

I do however try and leave by 4.30, to spend some time with our toddler before her bedtime (which is early due to early start), then work after she’s in bed until as late as I need to.

Other teachers without young children arrive later and finish later at our school. SLT don’t care, as long as the job gets done.

Rachellow · 16/02/2021 17:45

Our directed time is 8.30-4.30 apart from staff meeting day (3 hrs last week!) I'm generally in by 7.30ish and turn the printer on due to buses but at least 2x week I need to do my makeup in school so not really doing a lot until 7.45ish. Most are in by 8 and leave 5ish depending on childcare. I leave between 5.30-6.30 as I don't want to work at home. Our HT works crazy hours and I think comes in most weekends tbh she's really put me off ever wanting to be a headteacher

rc22 · 16/02/2021 22:19

8.15-8.30 but I stay until 6 in the evening and leave everything ready so all I need to do when I arrive in the morning is make a cup of tea, switch the computer on and talk to TA about plans for the day.

ValancyRedfern · 17/02/2021 09:35

It's entirely up to you. You can't compare as some teachers work more at home/work later etc. Pre children I always arrived at 7.15, now I arrive at 8.10 as that's the earliest I can get there after dropping dc off. I now work later in the evening to compensate. Whatever works for you.

reefedsail · 17/02/2021 11:13

My DH goes in at 6am every single day. He says 6am- 7.30am is the only time he ever gets an peace!

mrsnw · 17/02/2021 11:44

Yes, I bet it's lovely at 6am

I'm an NQT and following this with interest. I am in 7.30 - 6 ish, and do maybe 1-2 hours in the evening depending - and often work at the weekend. However, some colleagues say they don't do anything at home after that. I just wondered how it varies so wildly: is it because some schools have a tougher marking policy, or as a one form entry school you have to plan everything rather than split it between 3 classes like I can do with colleagues?

agapanthus1979 · 17/02/2021 19:02

At my desk by 6.45.
I love a good stretch of quiet time - cup of tea, think about the day etc, beat the queue for the photocopier!
It also means I don't take work home with me. In by 6.45, out the gates 4.30ish....home with no work.

Cookiecrisps · 17/02/2021 21:58

Our children can arrive in class from 8:15 so we have an early start. I like to get in at 7:15 to photocopy and set up resources. Caretaker opens up at 6am and locks up at 6pm. Some people are on site for this time. Work life balance could be much better for many staff.

Subordinateclause · 18/02/2021 07:21

@sydenhamhiller Yes will depend lots on marking policy, displays policy etc as well as how many people are in the team. My school is very laid back about displays and we do mainly verbal feedback but I teach multiple year groups and have no one to share planning with - my workload is much higher than it was at a 3 form entry when all planning and resourcing was shared 3 ways. We also have to manage all subject leadership between 2 of us.

Fuzzyspringroll · 18/02/2021 18:17

We have to be on site between 8.30am and 4pm (independent school). I usually drop DS off at nursery and then I'm in my room from about 8.15am. We need to collect the children from the playground at 8.45am and afternoon pick-up is at 3.45pm.

manicinsomniac · 20/02/2021 01:06

In normal times, it depends on the day. I have one 7:30 start, two 7:45 starts, one 8:15 start and one 8:45 start. I only arrive about 5 minutes before my start time though Blush I also have a morning off in the week to make up for having Saturday school.

manicinsomniac · 20/02/2021 01:08

Posted too soon.

In lock down times, I don't start till 8:40. I usually arrive at 8:38 ...
