EYFS/P levels - any help appreciated!

Hello, this is ‘very outing’ so I have changed my username. I have a job interview for a TA position in a specialist primary school - I have experience in KS2 and SEN but specialist provision is new for me. I have been asked to prepare/talk through remotely a differentiated activity based on these targets and I’m finding it hard. I have limited experience of p levels and am not sure what the AL codes mean.

Any advice very welcome on what a differentiated activity would look like. I have found activities aimed at P4 that I could adapt but I’m confused about the wording of the P3 target.

Thanks so much to anyone who can reply 🙏🏻

Sorry, I can't help - and I'm a teacher who has taught in special albeit a while ago now. This is a tricky question!
Hoping this will 'bump' for someone who can help.

I think the AL code is probably part of the schools assessment system.

‘Pupils remember learned responses over extended periods of time’ means that a child will likely need many, many repetitions of an activity before they are able to engage in it independently.

So you could choose an activity like ‘what’s in the box?’ Where an object is placed in the box and the child is helped to open the lid to find out what is in side. Then over the course of the activity and if the activity is repeated regularly the child will be able to anticipate that something exciting is in the box and would try to open it themselves. You could link the objects in the box to whatever topic is being covered, and then extend the activity by teaching the child working at P4 to request ‘more’ of what ever is in the box eg. A small bit of play dough so they need to request more to keep playing. Maybe teaching the makaton sign for more, or using symbols/PECS.

Shared responses - you would be looking at a small group activity. Good luck!

Thank you both for the bump and the practical example! Does EYFS generally mean working at below/above/at the same as p levels? I’ve read loads about them both but can’t deduce this - does EYFS imply they are in that age range whereas p levels are used once children would typically be at KS 1/2?

The p levels were meant to sit just under the old level 1, for the pupils in ks1 and up. So the P6/7/8 would probably be similar to eyfs goals for the higher age bands, although I’m not very familiar with them and how they compare p levels
