You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff only – a sort of room of requirement. Baiters, haters, goaders, and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

You can play here if you are a member of one the following groups-

-ABBA - anti bashers and baiting association
-SWAB - school workers against bashers
-SWOT - school workers opposing teacherbashers
-STARS - schoolworkers together against ranting + slurs

Do not give the staffroom password just in case it attracts the wrong sort

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the booze is stashed - Thirsty Tuesdays, Fizz Fridays now in operation.

If you come with a stick to goad us then that is not allowed in the staffroom and you will receive a detention

I’m going to respond to that consultation with ‘this is all shit for maths, can we have the exams back please? But without the large dataset question at A-level because that’s a waste of everyone’s time. Thanks.’

TheHoneyBadger · 15/01/2021 17:44

Will that fit in the'other' box noble? If you have extra characters left ask for gin and cake

noblegiraffe · 15/01/2021 17:45

I noted in the ‘regulatory impact assessment’ there was no assessment of the impact on teachers who will be expected to make sense of it all.

borntobequiet · 15/01/2021 17:45

The testing thing has the potential to cause a great deal of damage to the Government if and when the public realises the callous disregard being shown for their children’s and their extended families’ health in using LFTs instead of isolation, if it goes ahead.
With regard to technology, I in my late 60s and my colleague in his mid 50s are gobsmacked at how poorly many people aged 16 - 35 are at using ICT constructively. I understand that the yo-yo approach of it being compulsory at school, then not, then morphing into Computing and so on has had an effect, but even so.

noblegiraffe · 15/01/2021 17:47

I’m going to type it in every box.

Maths exams. Gin Prosecco. Cake. Thanks.

borntobequiet · 15/01/2021 17:48

poor not poorly. They’re not unwell.

Piggywaspushed · 15/01/2021 17:48

I can't believe they are considering having private candidates do the exam whilst saying 'but no one else can'

I pointed out they had hacked content for some subjects who now have to time fill! And the thing about the NEA is just chaotic. Do it, maybe all of it , maybe not. No suggestion that some individual students might have done it and some not.

I then wrote teacher workload teacher workload teacher workload teacher workload ad nauseam.

I wish we had a Marcus Rashford equivalent for education who got crap dangerous things like this sorted out with social media/the papers/the government within 24 hours!!

RigaBalsam · 15/01/2021 17:50

@TheHoneyBadger

Sorry if already shared.
Thanks honey. I honestly don't think my school will care. Sadly. Aghhjj
TheHoneyBadger · 15/01/2021 17:51

I'm watching bojo and bookends. Rrr waffle waffle wash your hands. Back to square one.

Ignore questions about education and try not to let Patrick speak because he's teetering very close to going off script. Whitty seems totally bought and paid for nowadays. Patrick the lose cannon jumping in saying we'll be fucked if the numpties reduce restrictions too soon again. He's jumped in several times and lots of repeats on avoiding being indoors mixing without ventilation aka schools.

I pretty much did that. But for English
DollyMixtureLulus · 15/01/2021 17:54

I had such a lovely day today in school with our keyworkers. I was so, so impressed by them all. They all knew exactly what to do and it was heads down and silent for a good chunk of time Shock

TheHoneyBadger · 15/01/2021 17:55

*loose! Glad you've got it covered noble.

chocolateisavegetable · 15/01/2021 17:57

I've eaten chocolate again

Shock
noblegiraffe · 15/01/2021 18:00

They can’t release maths exams early, they can’t have kids sitting them at different times. They have to do a timed, secure exam. Anything else is nonsense.

Piggywaspushed · 15/01/2021 18:05

Why do you want exams Mrs H?

Piggywaspushed · 15/01/2021 18:07

I am really worried for film that they will say we do prereleased papers that are either P1 or P2. When many teachers have taught bits from each. Please just let us drop a film or two!!

There really weren't questions on content.

HercwasanEnemyofEducation · 15/01/2021 18:07

I'm going to respond the same noble.

I can see the merit of no exams/choice in other subjects. For maths it makes an absolute mockery. Secure exams are the only way.

noblegiraffe · 15/01/2021 18:08

The main topic of conversation in the giraffe household today was ‘Was Joe Wicks’ ‘fart’ during PE with Joe merely a publicity stunt?’ www.mirror.co.uk/3am/celebrity-news/joe-wicks-left-mortified-accidentally-23316684

I’m counting that as ‘media studies’ on the homeschool timetable.

borntobequiet · 15/01/2021 18:09

Which sounds like a nauseating 60s/70s kiddie musical, how I hated everything of that ilk.

MrsHamlet · 15/01/2021 18:10

@Piggywaspushed

Why do you want exams Mrs H?
Because English is so subjective - we have "perceptive" in the mark scheme. My hod would give everyone who wrote what he told them a mark for perception. That's not how it works! Basically I don't trust centre assessment. I was a moderator for long enough to know why it is a bad idea!!!
GuyFawkesDay · 15/01/2021 18:15

Had a not so mad day, only 3 live lessons so felt less stressful.

Kids have been superb on all of them so far. Very impressed with their attitudes.

But I am SO very tired. How is getting out of bed later and only going to the study to teach so tiring??!!

But the trouble is, CHILDCARE.

Which business, the Tories and many parents are desperate for. Without 10 day breaks.

noblegiraffe · 15/01/2021 18:16

The ONS infection survey results which are normally released around lunchtime have not yet been released 👀
