Just wondering what everyone is wearing for ‘live’ lessons?

School has asked for work smart and I am not going to wear my work dresses so really looking for suggestions for smart (yet warm!) tops.

I've just been wearing jeans with a smart-ish jumper or top.

TheLetterZ · 13/01/2021 20:20

This is where I am falling down. I have smart work dresses and then comfy clothes (hoodies etc). Where can I get smartish tops?

Turn the camera off!

reallyisthisallthereis · 13/01/2021 20:44

we had this, I'm wearing jeans and a jumper.

I'm fairly sure they meant 'work clothes' but I read it as no pygamas!

Sittinbythetree · 13/01/2021 21:01

Work top, joggers and slippers for me. It’s the only plus of online learning.

PenOrPencil · 13/01/2021 21:40

Another vote for smart-ish jumper on top here. Let’s not talk about the bottom half Grin

Iamnotthe1 · 13/01/2021 21:42

We have lovely warm school hoodies that most staff wear at school anyway so I wear one of mine for the Zooms.

wasgoingmadinthecountry · 13/01/2021 21:45

I've worn a hoodie before now - luckily, I work in a school where they judge you on your teaching not your wardrobe. Casual sweatshirts and jumpers are fine. Clean and decent is our policy. Just wear what you want (disclaimer am old and used to be way more senior and don't give a shit about rules like this)

H&M do lovely polo neck ribbed tops (long sleeve) and chunky knit jumpers which would look smart enough for an online lesson. I often just add a necklace to make it look like I’ve dressed up!

Calling on my probably longest-serving online teacher on MN - seven months - here are the Roolz.

  1. Nothing below the waist matters.
  2. A scarf instantly formalises active wear.

Gavel :o

echt · 14/01/2021 07:29

I should have said I always wore the make-up I would wear to work, so as not to frighten the horses.

In the first lockdown, I was teaching y12 live. Camera off but using my visualiser. As I shifted by chair to a better position, my knee appeared in view.
Student: Miss.... is that a sloth?
Me: erm...
Student: miss, are you in your pyjamas?

Oops.

MrsH Grin
I make no bones about teaching in my pjs!! Secondary though and camera off. Lesson 1 usually have kids answering through a mouth full of cereal too.

I have promised my form that I will get dressed one day though and turn my camera on.

.... one day Grin

TheLetterZ · 14/01/2021 11:09

I find it so hard to teach with out my hands, nearly all my explanations have me waving my hands around so I’m happy to pop the camera on.

Plus I do think seeing faces is important for connection. I don’t always leave it on all lesson but don’t mind for parts.

Off to find a few nice jumpers that I can layer up, I get proper cold sitting still.

I just keep the camera off. I just have my work visible to them

Malbecfan · 14/01/2021 16:38

Live lessons which I'm doing in school as my home broadband can't cope with it sees me in a jumper, scarf, jeans & trainers. Live lessons which I'm doing in person, it's the same.

Kids are not expected to wear uniform because it's so cold so staff don't have to either. On video calls, we are supposed to look professional but as the camera is carefully angled to get no lower than my shoulders, nobody can see.

Phineyj · 14/01/2021 17:17

I like Sainsbury's clothes brand cotton Jersey collared shirts. Cheap, cheerful, warm and no iron.

TheLetterZ · 16/01/2021 17:54

I have just ordered a couple of smart jumper from Oasis. I like being in ‘work’ clothes for work especially when working at home as it marks the week a bit more. But I don’t need to be in dress and blazer and new jumpers will always be worn.

So win win.

I recorded all my lectures in the summer/autumn. Wore the same t-shirt for several with a different cardigan /necklace.

MsJaneAusten · 17/01/2021 19:34

I’ve been very open with the pupils about the fact I’m wearing ‘Activewear’ every day. “It’s so that I also get out for a run when I finish teaching. How are all of you getting fresh air?”

So, running tights, then lots of layers under a hoodie.

CraftyGin · 18/01/2021 18:32

I wear what I wear to school, minus the tights.
