Reducing hours through lockdown

Has anyone else had to reduce their hours in lockdown? I'm fulltime so is dh. He works from home and his wage is more. 2dc not in school.

My school want me in 3 to 4 days and then wfh 1 day first week 2 days second week. No way can we manage with dc age 4 and 7 at home and dh has client calls throughout day. I said I could do 2 days in school and wfh the rest (80% of my class are home so theres enough work) but this has been rejected and so I feel I've been forced to reduce my hours temporarily. I'm primary so no one is actually going to do any work linked to my class- I'll still do Google meets, welfare checks, planning, assessment and reports for whole class. I'll just hopefully be at home 3 days a week whilst doing it for less money!

Anyone else in similar position of reducing hours?

Why do you have to be in school at all? Can that work not be done remotely? Are a lot of your class in school?

I think you should talk to your union before reducing your hours. I'm not sure you're being treated well at all.

Thanks, @sakura06 will do

Please talk to your union. Sounds like you would have a case for indirect sex discrimination.

Can your children not go to their school/ nursery on the days you have to be in school?

Hope they can help!

My daughter has to go to school as a key worker child, can't yours? I didn't want to send her in, and battled with this, but ultimately the key worker spaces are there and I haven't got a legal leg to stand on with my school. I can work because she has a key worker place. If I refuse to send her to school then I would expect to have reduced money.

Sorry, you've put "2 dc not in school". I wasn't sure if that meant they are babies or you were choosing not to send them!

I doubt a school would just let you reduce your hours as someone has to cover those hours. Have your dc been refused a keyworker place? Can your partner use some leave? Are you allowed to take your kids in with you? Definitely worth discussing it all with your union.
