Getting back into teaching

Hello, I've been "off" for a few years raising family and ready to get back into teaching (I think!)

I'm ks2 based and last time I taught it was the "old curriculum"... app grids in Literacy, levels etc. Does it feel much different to 5-10 years ago? Were the changess easy to adjust to? I've read a few articles about changes in assessing Literacy and one mentioned success criteria are less in vogue now... is this the case? Don't want to seem hopelessly out of date!

Could you just have another baby instead?

Hehe, very tempting!

In terms of curriculum, it's not that different to 5 years ago because that would still be 2014 curriculum. It's very different to 10 years ago.

In terms of teaching generally, it's a very different culture in my experience and not in a good way. 5 years ago teaching was very different to 10 years ago and I thought that was bad. Definitely feel another 5 years down the line and things are a lot worse.

I don't think it's really worth thinking about the old way and new way though. The old way is long in the past so almost needs to be forgotten. The skill of teaching is still the same so you'd be ok with that but it's not really worth thinking about how you used to do things. Just research research research about how things are now.

One caveat though - the current circumstances mean everyone's in unchartered territory. Goodness knows what the 'thing' will be once it all goes back to 'normal'. It's very likely to all change again IMO.

National tutoring programme might be a good way to ease yourself back in......
