You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff only – a sort of room of requirement. Baiters, haters, goaders, and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

You can play here if you are a member of one the following groups-

-ABBA - anti bashers and baiting association
-SWAB - school workers against bashers
-SWOT - school workers opposing teacherbashers
-STARS - schoolworkers together against ranting + slurs

Do not give the staffroom password just in case it attracts the wrong sort

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the booze is stashed - Thirsty Tuesdays, Fizz Fridays now in operation.

If you come with a stick to goad us then that is not allowed in the staffroom and you will receive a detention

Has anyone’s school mentioned what the plan is if a teach is sick. It’s not been takes about in our school and I don’t want it to look like I’m planning a sickie
Too sick to teach online? Set work on teams that they just do in the lesson slot.
Too sick to set work? Hod does it. Except that class that I've been asked to take over.

WhenSheWasBad · 08/01/2021 18:54

I actually liked teaching my extremely mixed ability class today.

Worksheet on teams they could all access (so many equations today).

Modelled one question, told the confident kids to work on their own when they were ready. Those who felt they needed more help could watch me model more questions.

Most of the them submitted their work at the end of the lesson. It was a success.

The least said about last period year 7s the better. 2 lessons in and I’ve barely taught them any science and they are still struggling with teams Sad

@ChloeDecker

Did you get given a shiny red Record of Achievement folder as well?!

I have one! My English GCSE wasn’t 100% coursework though. I did mine in 1997.

Memories Grin

I did my PGCE in 1997 😂.

I’m actually quite impressed I’ve still got the RoA and know where it is. I wish I could say the same about all of my other important bits of paper!

Thanks Mrs H that’s kind of what I assumed.

Glad I asked here as it’s clearly a question with a very obvious answer. Really appreciate you lot giving me advice and answering any daft questions I have.

Just want to say a huge thank you to everyone on these threads. I've been lurking for a while and found your words of wisdom and shared experiences really reassuring. Thank the Maker that it is the weekend!

JanuaryChill · 08/01/2021 19:01

I'd already "left" teaching by 1997!

ChloeDecker · 08/01/2021 19:02

I did mine in 2003-sorry if that’s rubbing it in Grin

The sheer amount of physical paperwork needed even then! Fills an entire tub in the loft Smile

MrsHamlet · 08/01/2021 19:03

I've got my national record of achievement still. I was told I'd be asked for it in interviews. You lied, Mrs Fairbairn!

Amen!

They also said I would need my green TB Innoculation form. For like, forever. So there they all are....my TB form, my voluntary work in the Community, my weird St Martin’s College random Spanish and Italian certificates, my Royal College Of Music certs.....,all preserved in the finest Pleather folder and with the faintest whiff of Constance Carroll make up....
MrsHamlet · 08/01/2021 19:09

And you can't take stuff out because the plastic peels the writing off!

BustopherPonsonbyJones · 08/01/2021 19:13

I’ve still got mine too. They put the fear of God into us about it and I CANNNOT throw it away. Did you all do those weird career surveys too?

Yes where people were told to be a fishmonger etc.
RuleWithAWoodenFoot · 08/01/2021 19:14

I've got a National Record of Achievement too. Haha, how stupid. So antiquated (is that a word?) now.

Yes. Never came up with teacher 🤷‍♀️
MrsDanvers123 · 08/01/2021 19:15

I was the very first GCSE year - the first time I wrote an English Literature essay was in the actual exam! Bloody hell, I am old! I did only begin teaching when I was 30 because it took me a while to find my 'vocation' Hmm

BustopherPonsonbyJones · 08/01/2021 19:15

That’s the one! I think mine was a zookeeper. To be fair, teaching and being a zoo keeper are probably quite similar.

Monkeytennis97 · 08/01/2021 19:16

I did my pgce in '94. Old. National Record of Achievement? I remember pupils getting it but it didn't exist when I was at school I don't think.

Cantaloupeisland · 08/01/2021 19:17

Oh my god I'd completely forgotten about the national record of achievement! In the fancy leather style folder with gold lettering! I think mine must be in a box in my parents' loft somewhere Grin

Snap although I did O level maths as I took it a year early.

Shhh I found the O level easier than some of my GCSEs... scandal!

Piggywaspushed · 08/01/2021 19:23

There's another article confirming DfE are saying no to masks. Angry

EvilEdnasEnemiesOfEducation · 08/01/2021 19:28

I'm the old fart in the real Staffroom so glad some of you are about the same age based on your talk of o levels.

Shit day and need to drown my sorrows, but before I do, do any of you lovely lot have any ideas for form time? Mine are so quiet I end up talking to myself and I think someone will tell Slt that I've gone a bit mad (partly true). Starting every day with 20 minutes of awkward silence is doing my head in.

Piggywaspushed · 08/01/2021 19:28

So hang on, Ofsted are coming to school to see how well we work remotely because they can't do their own jobs remotely??

You really couldn't make shit like this up
