You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff only – a sort of room of requirement. Baiters, haters, goaders, and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

You can play here if you are a member of one the following groups-

-ABBA - anti bashers and baiting association
-SWAB - school workers against bashers
-SWOT - school workers opposing teacherbashers
-STARS - schoolworkers together against ranting + slurs

Do not give the staffroom password just in case it attracts the wrong sort

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the booze is stashed - Thirsty Tuesdays, Fizz Fridays now in operation.

If you come with a stick to goad us then that is not allowed in the staffroom and you will receive a detention

Oh, if only. It doesn't work. The copyright protection turns the screen black and / or mangles the sound!

I had a problem this monring with an embedded ppt clip not playing to the kids if they tried to watch independently so my cunning plan to send them away to watch some Horrible Histories failed.

Mistressiggi · 07/01/2021 14:34

Wow so I could show a dvd live by doing that? (Or, all of Netflix?)
Some parent would complain, they're bound to Hmm
@Mistressiggi are you using teams? If so you can do the same as loom by using streams. It doesn’t limit clip length either.
Thank you, yes I am, haven't acquainted myself with Streams yet will have a look Flowers

RigaBalsam · 07/01/2021 14:50

Is anyone elses year 11's proper sucking up almost. Everyone is logging in sending work back more than ever. One has even sent chocolates in.

I was worried about them downing tools but now they have picked them up to almost prove to me.

I am sure it won't last.

Piggywaspushed · 07/01/2021 15:00

Not in my experience mistress!

My year 11s ahve just spent this afternoon offloading at me about their awful wifi at home.

Monkeytennis97 · 07/01/2021 15:02

@RigaBalsam not yetGrin but my group are wonderful anyway so not sure I'd notice the changeSmile

rainingcats · 07/01/2021 15:06

Thanks everyone - I phoned the head of year after I posted to complain and he has sent out an email to the whole year group (wasn’t just me who had the angry parents on team issue it would seem) making it clear that any questions should be directed to the relevant people and that teams time must be for teaching and learning only not trying to resolve access issues. I am normally quite cool and calm at dealing with angry parents but dealing with them virtually in my house is on a whole other level - hopefully tomorrow will be better (I am keeping them all muted tomorrow!)

MrsHamlet · 07/01/2021 15:18

Mine have been asking about the work they didn't do in lockdown.
Yes it's still there.
Yes you should do it.
Yes I'll mark it.
Extra lessons? Nope.

I don’t know why we can’t put a stop to the “not enough devices in the house” requests for a place by giving them a school ipad? I got a vague answer when I asked on Tues, but we’d get them back, we’re not currently using them as we have enough PCs for Computing. Head is sending out a letter asking parents to reconsider places for their child if at all possible, as numbers are now threatening to make the RA invalid (no shit, it was invalid yesterday with 20 in a small room).
Requiring uniform isn’t helping either, imo. I think I would be under the impression that the children in school might be getting a better quality education too, if I were a parent there. Not that I’d take the piss by demanding a place, but with the prospect of this lasting for most of the school year even the excellent provision we are offering might not seem enough.

EnemyOfEducationNo1 · 07/01/2021 15:32

@Piggywaspushed - I haven't caught up yet, so don't know if this has already been mentioned - but have you tried your Library Education Services for the dvd? They are legally allowed to copy and lend out films...

Super.

I really really hate this government.

Are the NHS having audits to check their performance at the moment? Dentists?

Even the Fail getting in on it now with comments largely agreeing that it's ridiculous having so many in!

RosieBdy · 07/01/2021 16:11

Has anyone else read the updated 'Actions for schools during the coronavirus outbreak' yet?
Apparently it doesn't matter how many children of critical workers need to attend school - there should be no limit to numbers/attendance...
The aim is to reduce the overall social contact across the country and not in individual schools so we don't need to worry that we're still teaching large groups in many primary schools.
Some of the classes in my infant school have over 50% of children in, but it doesn't matter about those staff members, just so long as some schools in the country have less social contact...
Our local rate is 994 per 100,000 and yet the school is almost half full!
Was this guidance the same in the last lockdown? I'm not sure that I read the guidance that thoroughly then as I wasn't class teaching at that point.

I did think of that enemy but not got round to that one quite yet...

EnemyOfEducationNo1 · 07/01/2021 16:14

Oh god. So I've spent all day with the 4yo screaming to have me, or breaking into the room, or me taking a few minutes to calm him down and hug etc. Daddy apparently is NOT acceptable when I'm in the house. DH is working 7am-9 then 3-8.30pm.
And then I look on the class WhatsApp and see all the work their reception kids have done on teams.... Sad

Saucery · 07/01/2021 16:35

So all Heads can do is appeal to the better natures of the parents who want to send their children in? There are no limits, so no social distancing etc possible to protect staff and children.
Lost. For. Words.

MrsHerculePoirot · 07/01/2021 16:39

@Mistressiggi if you want to pm your email I can send you the instructions for streams. It’s fairly easy I hope...

Exactly!! I'm supportive of those who really do need to be there obviously, but I also want to feel safe! It also very clearly states that it only needs to be one parent who is a critical worker and that they can also be working from home...

In fact, we may as well not have RAs at all, because parents will just say we have to take their children, the govt said so. Angry
