You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff only – a sort of room of requirement. Baiters, haters, goaders, and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

You can play here if you are a member of one the following groups-

-ABBA - anti bashers and baiting association
-SWAB - school workers against bashers
-SWOT - school workers opposing teacherbashers
-STARS - schoolworkers together against ranting + slurs

Do not give the staffroom password just in case it attracts the wrong sort

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the booze is stashed - Thirsty Tuesdays, Fizz Fridays now in operation.

If you come with a stick to goad us then that is not allowed in the staffroom and you will receive a detention

SantaAssociationRepresentitve · 05/01/2021 14:09

No probs - just about to have just another online training session on data [yawn]

It's a good thing the Cupboard wasn't needed, I can't find it any more!!! (Even in a search)

Has Gavin moved it as a feeble attempt at disempowering noble??

SansaSnark · 05/01/2021 14:15

Been in school all day with keyworker children . I'll also be in on Friday.

From next week we go to one day a week, but we seem to be getting a lot more staff in than last time for not that many kids!

Mistressiggi · 05/01/2021 14:17

Thanks, Santa Smile
Hmm, wondering about a mic and headset now - maybe one of my dc's gaming cast-offs would work? Will have a go.

RigaBalsam · 05/01/2021 14:18

Thanks staff. This school is freezing!

Piggywaspushed · 05/01/2021 14:19

Gordon Bennett : was the 39th the quickest one ever!!?

DreamingofBrie · 05/01/2021 14:23

Thank you Staff.

I've also ordered the inking pad (again!) for dc3 to use during remote learning today. After much thought I'm going to try and manage at home with him. We have a lot of NHS parents and I don't want to increase the numbers in school.

We've had stern words about his engagement with his work and he's a bit older so hopefully it'll be better this time round. At his primary they have one live lesson and a live tutor period every day, then two pieces of independent work. Manageable.

We managed to LF test about a third of our staff yesterday. What a waste of time that was!

NeurotreeWenceslas · 05/01/2021 14:23

Thanks staff!

Asking again; Primary staff, is your school intending to send stuff like geography, RE and art or Dt home?

Although it sounds like most are being led by the TAs and the teacher does all the planning? We can't really do that :/

OnehorseopenBobsleigh · 05/01/2021 14:30

Yes @NeurotreeWenceslas - the full curriculum. No DT planned at the mo as that takes planning and lots of notice to parents to collect stuff for it, but everything else, yes.

year5teacher · 05/01/2021 14:36

I can’t help but feel as though this isn’t going to stop the spread at all. I can’t socially distance with 20 children in my class.

year5teacher · 05/01/2021 14:36

And full time as well, no rota, no days out to reduce the contact...

SantaAssociationRepresentitve · 05/01/2021 14:41

We had Innova LFD training and I have my 5 certificates! We were meant to trail the testing on staff today as the tests turned up yesterday afternoon. That's another hour or so done of pointless stuff.

On a more positive note, the Head has cancelled the last couple of training sessions so that we can fiddle about on Teams. I had the joy of two year 11 groups tomorrow but will not be able to answer any of their questions,

Home learning is not going well with dd2. She has stropped about doing a comprehension exercise, reluctantly done a short maths exercise, and we're onto pshe now. The bloody pshe is supposed to lead into a nice little art thing, but it's been 20 minutes and we're still on the first page of the PowerPoint (who thinks black writing on a black background is good for being able to read it?) This first page should take about 30 seconds, so I've shouted at her for her attitude, and left for 5 minutes to calm down. I do believe she's going to be on a screen ban (other than school work) if her approach isn't significantly better tomorrow.

RuleWithAWoodenFoot · 05/01/2021 14:52

Asking again; Primary staff, is your school intending to send stuff like geography, RE and art or Dt home?

Yes. We are doing a reading lesson, writing lesson, maths lesson and a foundation subject lesson - science, geography, art, french and DT this term - although the DT doesn't kick in until we've finished the geography coverage.

I'm also going to do spelling as part of my morning 'live' slot with my class.

My child hasn't been in to school today, and is currently crying downstairs. Poor partner. This was rather thrust upon him.

EnemyOfEducationNo1 · 05/01/2021 14:53

I bumped it for you. Took me a while to find it, too. I was starting to wonder if it was in hiding with Gav.
KatherineOfGaunt · 05/01/2021 14:56

@NeurotreeWenceslas

Yes, a full curriculum as can be, with half at home and half in.

@year5teacher - Pretty much the same situation here. 20 of us in the room, rather than 33, otherwise it's basically business as usual.

Monkeytennis97 · 05/01/2021 14:57

Thanks Santa!

Mrsbrownsgargoyle · 05/01/2021 14:57

Nearly half of our children will be in from tomorrow. Not happy.

NeurotreeWenceslas · 05/01/2021 14:58

Thanks everyone. So Rule are you physically teaching your class too?

Nope, business as usual here more or less. Full staff in and about third of class down, that's it.
Monkeytennis97 · 05/01/2021 14:58

DH is having a breakdown trying to switch from one screen to another on Teams. He has resorted to emailing all YouTube links to kids to avoid it. Dreading tomorrow when I'll be teaching and not able to help him in the other room😳😩

Monkeytennis97 · 05/01/2021 14:59

So sorry to everyone who is still in with almost full classes or full classes. So shit.

JanuaryChill · 05/01/2021 15:03

Thanks, forgot it was a closet not W Cupboard so that might have affected my search!

Surely they're going to have to do something about still crowded classrooms?? Wonder what unions think/say? It is an impossible situation really (taking entitled parents out of the equation anyway), I feel for parents like those of you here caught between a rock and a hard place. And obviously saying 'children who find it difficult to learn at home' should come in is trying to remedy the wrongs of the previous situation.
