I'm a parent. Is there anything I can do or send in to my DC secondary school to help?

I confess I don't want to volunteer for a testing role and can't afford hundreds of pounds of donations, but is there anything other than sending in a fruit basket or biscuits (glue sticks?!) etc that would give staff a boost or help them out?

A thank you to the staff, head and anyone that interacted with your children. It is very rare that this gets said and is always appreciated.

Making sure your dc follow the guidance the school ask for. Eg sit in their assigned seat, adhere to social distancing. Ask them to share doing this with their friends so it doesn't feel like teachers are fighting a losing battle sometimes.

That is a very, very kind thought, thank-you. A thank-you letter means a good deal at the moment. Tea, coffee and biscuits would too, if you want to give a gift.

Very kind of you. An email to the head or management to say thank you to staff would make a difference and boost morale.

Thanks for the ideas. I feel so sorry for teachers at the moment. Am pretty fuming on your behalf.

Aww. To be honest being a nice parent on mumsnet is enough for me and has made my day. Thank you @Purpler5

What a lovely parent your are @Purpler5!

We actually received a thank you email yesterday from a parent and it really did make my day knowing that our hard work is appreciated (by some).

I've been expressing sympathy with my DCs' children when I speak to them but will possibly do a few Thank You cards!

drspouse · 05/01/2021 16:05

Sorry that should be my DCs' TEACHERS.

Thank you for this thread. I came on to ask a similar question.

The teachers at my dc school have been marvellous. Due to the covid situation I wasnt sure if I should send a thank you gift in, if it would be wanted or even needed.

I wanted to do something (and unfortunately I cant give you time, less stress or a pay rise!) but i didnt wonder if I Amazon'd some tea/coffee/biscuits with a thank you note, would that be ok?

Loshad · 08/01/2021 22:14

Thank you notes are great, biscuits always appreciated but at the moment since the secretary of state for education asked parents to complain direct to OFSTED if remote teaching wasn’t good enough ( not that he asked them) there is a big campaign to email OFSTED to praise your kids school.
That would be really fab.
