Secondary- all staff in

coffeefizz · 04/01/2021 10:12

Just wondering if this is the same for all teachers in secondary schools? I'm just a bit baffled I understand the need for a rota for KW/V but it seems to be unnecessary to expect all staff to be in every day. Our head seems to think it's perfectly safe, but surely work from home means work from home... Is anyone else in this situation? In NW BTW.

Yup, same here. No explanation.

PumpkinPie2016 · 04/01/2021 12:47

We're all in. Vulnerable/KW kids are in their usual classrooms where we are delivering the remote lessons so that they can access the lessons as well.

I actually prefer being in this way as social distancing is far, far easier as staff are mostly spread out and in rooms with one or two kids maximum. I have liked being able to see my faculty and check in with them and alleviate any worries they have around remote lessons.

There are one or two of my faculty that I think would struggle without human contact in schoolSad

Piggywaspushed · 04/01/2021 12:57

Honestly, pumpkin, I think it should be a choice. I genuinely think people should be avoiding human contact. I am aware I sound like a well know poster and a well know woman called Harries but I think teachers suck at keeping away from each other.

DH just had a call from teacher friend : he and his wife very very ill all Christmas (nearly hospitalised). NHS told them not to get their kids tested .This sort of thing must affect reported figures....

Piggywaspushed · 04/01/2021 12:59

We have now just been told that we can stay home.

PumpkinPie2016 · 04/01/2021 13:10

@Piggywaspushed maybe choice is the way to go with it -that way, those who have vulnerable family/are worried can stay home. I certainly wouldn't mind any colleague working from home if that made them feel better about it.

If it does go that way and my vulnerable staff choose to stay home, I'll just make sure I meet with them on teams/have phone conversations so they aren't alone completely.

Piggywaspushed · 04/01/2021 13:12

Yes, I think that's how it should be.

coffeefizz · 04/01/2021 13:41

I definitely think it should be a choice. Whilst I understand that some people want the human contact, I find it an unnecessary risk. I have 3 kids- one with a disability (although not CV) . If me and my husband go down with this I dread to think how we'll cope!! The head's response- everyone in... I think it's a dangerous mentality but everyone (including me) are too scared to raise our heads about the parapets!

We were all in today but have a rota for the rest of the week; most staff only doing 1 more day. I'm in to support with exams so doing 2 extra days this week.

This all could change though at 8pm...

Cracklefraggle · 04/01/2021 16:06

All in and moving rooms to do teams from usual classrooms Confused
NW too.

Hairydogmummy · 04/01/2021 20:22

I'm in Wales and we're all in all day very day. I enjoy seeing my friends don't get me wrong but it doesn't seem 'essential' for us to be there sharing toilets, kitchen facilities etc. We aren't allowed to teach live from home anyway unless there's another adult in the lesson.

GoingToInfinity · 04/01/2021 21:11

We're in the same position too. We have 2 out of 6 usual classes worth of children per year group of key worker/vulnerable children. They, and the staff will be moving around the school following their usual timetable. This means there will be some classes of up to 15 and some classes with only 2 students. We are also simultaneously meant to be supporting remote learning for our timetabled lessons.
Pretty much as soon as Boris had finished his announcement, our Head emailed saying she expected everyone in for our INSET tomorrow, and to remind us not to forget to book Key Worker places for our own children.
Absolutely bonkers and I don't understand how it's safe. Does anyone know the guidance for delivering the curriculum for those in school?

RingPiece · 04/01/2021 21:16

It seems it's the same for my friends in primary as well. Everyone in every day. Remote learning being managed from in school, no one working from home apart from CEV who can wfh. Any word on clinically vulnerable staff at all?

Washimal · 05/01/2021 15:20

At our school Teachers are allowed to work from home, support staff have been told we will all be in every day for the duration of lockdown either supervising the KW students or doing covid-testing.

Frlrlrubert · 05/01/2021 16:21

We are in this week (still not sorted the KW supervision rota), and then only have to come in if we're on the KW rota after that. Can live teach either from home or school as we please.

I might have to go in more than I intended though, I have to phone each of my tutor group (preferably from school) every two weeks (3 calls in total by half term). Wading through SIMs for phone numbers and then trying to get hold of them all is going to be quite a mission!

Hairydogmummy · 05/01/2021 17:18

We are being told we can't live teach from home without a second adult in the Teams lesson therefore we have to come in to school from where apparently we can teach live. Does anyone else have similar? I'm in Wales and this is apparently Welsh assembly gov advice.

Piggywaspushed · 05/01/2021 17:22

Wha? That's nonsense!

bettyboo40 · 05/01/2021 17:47

Yes I'm in Wales and this is the advice we're following. Harder for smaller departments but the cover supervisors and TAs have offered to sit in on lessons.
jendifer · 05/01/2021 17:54

Teachers working from home but support staff in. No one seems to know why, there is nothing for me to do at work which I couldn't do at home

Hairydogmummy · 05/01/2021 18:15

@bettyboo40 are you allowed to work from home then if you can arrange the second adult? We aren't allowed to work from home at all.

SansaSnark · 05/01/2021 18:32

We are staying home unless required in for KW care (secondary). From next week, it seems like we will be in one day a week. More staff are expected in than in the summer- the partial justification is that if someone tests positive for Covid, they will be sent home and we need imediate cover.

I think we are still allowed into school if not on rota.

I agree that we should be minimising our contacts (and also use of public transport etc) wherever possible.

I was just on the NEU zoom call this evening, and their feeling is that teachers should challenge "all in" policies, and they have said they will support industrial action on a school by school basis over this.

bettyboo40 · 05/01/2021 20:14
@bettyboo40 are you allowed to work from home then if you can arrange the second adult? We aren't allowed to work from home at all.
Yes we are. Only those on rota need to be in. It'll probably be easier to be in school though if you want to do a live lesson. We're not doing that many in my school yet, although if the lockdown goes on I'm sure we'll all be doing more.

SantaAssociationRepresentitve · 06/01/2021 14:42

Only SLT are in. Head said it was not safe for teachers to be in 😂. We are banned from site.

Jumpingshipquick · 06/01/2021 14:57

We're all in- which then means I have to put my 3 children in KW provision. The 2 youngest fair enough in a small group at primary, i can't teach from home and mind them, but my eldest is year 7 and is doing great at home. I'm so angry about it - 70+ teachers all using the staffroom, toilets, canteen. I did a better job teaching from home where the internet works. And the kw provision is grim and so she doesn't want to go, nevermind the fact that we are all far, far safer if she stays at home.

I'm thinking of phoning in sick. The horrendous bullying emails that are flying round are just awful.

Loshad · 06/01/2021 21:04

We are at home, only pe staff, heads of year, ( those 2 groups doing kw supervision) slt etc in school
Head very keen we stay at home if possible but you can email and ask to go in.
@Hairydogmummy that’s mad, won’t they settle for you recording it so it can be examined later if any issues are claimed.

Hairydogmummy · 07/01/2021 07:51

We are now allowed to teach from home! They have set up a system for TAs to drop in and out of those lessons happening from home. The recording has become another issue. We were told we could do that yesterday by the head but must not share with kids. On teams it pops on to the chat and we can't work out how to delete it. No one at school apart from me has tried it so now they are trying to sort that.
