So anxious and feel like the world is falling apart.

I'm a class teacher in an infant school. Tier 4 but not closing. Feeling very panicky about going back to work but also hate the idea of setting remote learning for such a young age group. Everything feels too much. The uncertainty and the worry. Help

It’s a massively anxious time. I’m in the same position as you. There’s no answer but just wanted to let you know you’re not alone.

Bluewavescrashing · 02/01/2021 13:07

Thank you for replying. I have no appetite and feel dreadful. Already taking anti depressants thank god. There's nothing I can do as the threat is real and completely out of my control.

Same here. No advice but solidarity. It's a scary time. I feel the odds are against us but we've got to somehow carry on Thanks

PetuniaClark · 02/01/2021 13:48

sympathies, in exactly the same boat. Dreading Monday 😟

ValancyRedfern · 02/01/2021 13:57

Same. I teach a practical subject and have to replan everything for online (after having already replanned it all for kids sitting at desks). I also have the feeling all the planning I'm doing this weekend will be wasted as they'll change everything again anyway. Exhausted and term hasn't even started yet! Try and do something relaxing this afternoon.

I've angry-cleaned the house now going out for a walk. Both help when I feel anxious.

I have everything crossed schools will now all be shut in tier 4. KS1 teacher here and I pray we go online. I'm glued to the news.

Look at the advice from NEU. You are within your rights to request that you work remotely for the first 2 weeks in January. Lots of info on NEU website.

Bluewavescrashing · 02/01/2021 16:35

What will happen to my class if I do that, though? Sad

Depends what union you're in. Not everyone will be NEU. All unions will need to say the same re not going in.

BumbleBeegu · 02/01/2021 23:15

That's not true @dippyegg32 The unions are giving the advice to 'invoke' (not sure if that's the correct term to use, but I can't think of a better one 😂) Section 44 of the Health & Safety at Work Act. It's not so much a 'union' thing...anyone can use this. The unions are simply telling us that we have 'the right' to 'invoke' it. Even the NAHT are using this now to sue the government. So Heads are fully on board with staff using the template letter provided by most unions...even if you're not a member of that particular union you can still use the template letter. They are supporting the walkout...you will be paid, it's not a strike, and they are expecting this. Use it!!

This is such a stressful time. If the government had made a clear decision a week ago it would have made this so much easier on staff, parents and children. I personally think Tier 4 schools should teach remotely (or even create a Tier 5 for the very highest areas) and then government should support local government in doing everything possible to get rates down so people can move back down a tier. We need clarity, honesty and to be consulted with.

dippyegg32 · 03/01/2021 08:16

Ah thanks @BumbleBeegu - great book btw! When do we think Gav will step up and make an announcement?

BumbleBeegu · 03/01/2021 08:19

I'll go out on a limb here and say...23.50 this evening if he wants to generously give us a bit of notice, but if he's got a cob on, 7.55 am tomorrow morning 👍😂
