Are any ECV opting not to go to work in January?

The guidance is that we shouldn't go to work even if it's not possible to work from home.

I went back in September as my head told me if I didn't do face to face teaching he'd give me all the crap he could find to do (exact words)

So close to a vaccine, I feel like it's time to be sensible. I work in primary with no social distancing and bubble system is a total joke

What’s so bad about the crap your head would give you? Serious question.

DecemberStar · 27/12/2020 21:18

What tier are you in?

PinkPonyTail · 27/12/2020 22:58

I’m in Northern Ireland so we don’t have tiers here.

Not so much about what’s so bad about it, but the tone in which the message was delivered.

Ah now I understand. Sorry to hear that.

I'm surprised you even get the choice.

The two ECV teachers at the school I work in were actually told to leave in the middle of the day just before England's second lockdown in November. As soon as it was announced that shielded people shouldn't be at work, they were out. They both argued their case and one even offered to sign a waiver saying she took full responsibility for being in school but the business manager wasn't having any of it. If you're told not to be at work then I don't think you're allowed to be. September was different but, in lockdown or tier 4, I don't think the head is allowed to have you.

Im CEV (and more so now as I've just added more drugs in to the mix ) but I've worked throughout and will continue to.
However my school have continually given information for staff told to sheild and wish to and would have made it possible.
I don't have any experience in this because I've chosen to work however what id take most exception to is your heads attitude. Horrible.
If you don't want to go in I would completely understand and if he is being like this I would be considering speaking to your union for advice to be fair. The situation sounds so horrible, I hope you can resolve it.

No that's not correct.

All the shielding letters and info that are sent out state very clearly that shielding is not a legal requirement, but a recommendation. So you don't have to follow it.

No one can make you follow it and your workplace can't tell you you can't be in. They do have to support you not being in if you choose though.

Just to confirm that I'm not making this up here is a screenshot which clearly states you don't have to follow it. No one can make you.

I am shielding currently but fortunately my role does transfer to working from home relatively well.
