dogsbookstea · 15/12/2020 10:38

I’ve just completed my 1st placement as a trainee teacher.
What is your daily routine?
I don’t yet live on my own but want to do so soon. I would also like to hear your cleaning schedule, how your organise your life, your work, admin, socialising, etc.

Thank you.

Up at 6. Shower, dress, get DS ready. Breakfast and coffee. Leave house at 7.30. Drop DS at school at 8. In school 8.15. Teach. Try to use any frees to mark, print resources. Lessons until 4. Marking until 4.45. Pick DS up at 5. Home at 5.30. Cook and Eat. Help DS with homework. Half hour or so together as a family, chatting or playing a board game. Bath, book and bed for DS at 7.30. 20 minutes or so to talk to DH. Start work about 8.30. Maybe another hour, depends. Half hour reading a book before bed. Sleep. Repeat. I clean and do laundry on a Saturday. Sunday is my relaxing day when I bake and go for walks.

reefedsail · 15/12/2020 16:42

5.50am get up.
7.30 get to school.
8.30 Children start arriving.
8.30 - 3pm with the children all day. Eat with them and I take them out for lunch play (SEN).
3- 4.30ish- wash up/ meetings
5ish get home

I don't generally work after I get home or weekends, although there is occasional paperwork to do and emails to answer. I have 2 afternoons per week PPA/ management time but I spend it in my classroom working at my desk as a rule as that is better for the children.

I'm often out both days of the weekend with DS's sport. Life just fits round school/ sport and all has to be very efficient. I have a cleaner.

paperdreams16 · 15/12/2020 17:41

Get up 6.15.
In school by 7.30.
Mark/stick in work/reply to emails/plan/prepare and set up for day til 8.45.
Teach from 8.45 - 11.50.
Mark from 11.50 - 12.15ish then eat lunch in staff room until 12.50.
Teach from 12.50 - 3.15.
Let children out at 3.15 then come back in and tidy, wipe down tables, take things to office, generally get class straight for next day.
Go home between 4.30 and 5 and rarely do any work when I get in unless I have a meeting to prepare for (e.g an EHCP meeting) or emails to reply to. I sometimes do an hour or two of work at the weekend, especially when it’s time to upload data, but this isn’t every weekend.

MrsHamlet · 15/12/2020 18:18

Up at 6. Leave house at 6.40. Train at 7 - start marking. Arrive at work 7.45 and admin til 8.45.
Teach til 3.30. Frees and lunchtime (except when on duty) marking planning admin meetings.
Train at 4. Mark til train arrives at 4.45 then normally work til any time between 6-8 depending on what I've got on.
Saturday morning cleaning. Batch cook in the holidays (I have three freezers!)
I am middle management so I teach a lighter timetable BUT I have three whole school roles and I teach English to y10-13 so the workload from marking is significant.
I refuse to work in the holidays and I never set holiday homework so I don't have to come back to a pile.

GuyFawkesDay · 15/12/2020 19:34

Up at 6
Leave at 7, in school about 7:30
Sort stuff out, prep. Kids on at 8:25.
Teach, mark or prep in frees/lunch.
Kids go at 2:45.
Stay til 4:30 marking/meetings/planing etc. Home by 5pm. Cook for kids, do housework bits, bath kids and sort anything for the next day, make lunches etc.

Collapse in a heap about 8pm and chase my two kids into bed.

Do TOMM for housework and DH often does a fair chunk of it as he WFH. He also does school run. House is still a tip though. I've sort of given up until we are out of the covid days as I'm so knackered I just don't care.

RuleWithAWoodenFoot · 15/12/2020 19:35

Up at 6, drive to pool, swim 6.30 - 7.
Get to work at 7.30, resourcing lessons, collecting printing from the night before etc
Kids start coming in from 8.30
Straight through until 2.45 - get a 30 min break for lunch, I work through that (marking)
Work at school until 4.45, collect child from after school club by 5.30
Cook/family shiz until 7.30pm
Every other night Sun - Thurs I work from 7.30 - 10ish, other nights work 8.30 - 10ish
I do all my planning etc in the evenings - usually find myself doing inclusion resourcing, and I have an SLT responsibility too
I can print from home, so get all stuff printed so I can pick it up on my way in to school
Bed between 11 and midnight usually.

Whoever isn't on bedtime does the supermarket shop on a Thursday night, I change bed sheets Saturday morning, I hoover/clean bits on Saturday, partner does all bins and bathroom cleaning, and dishwasher emptying. We split cooking. I also make my breakfast on a Sunday night (frittata), and have leftovers for lunch. I never do anything aside from swimming on my work commute. The week is literally all work, but I rarely work weekends (other than printing resources on a Sunday evening for 15 mins), and never work any of the holidays at all.

GuyFawkesDay · 15/12/2020 19:36

Oops, pressed send too soon.

Evenings I probably work one a week. Maybe an hour or two on Sunday as well. Try not to though. I do enough hours (0.8 and I reckon I am doing 40hrs a week most weeks)!!!

HailFairy · 15/12/2020 21:16

I only work 3 days a week. DH also a teacher (SLT). He’s full time.

My working days:
We’re up at 6, leaving house around 7 for DH, 7:30 for me & dc.
Dc to childminder, then prep in school. Teach till 3:15, work for around 2 more hours in school.
Pick up dc, home, dinner, bedtime etc.
Dc asleep around 8pm.
DH then usually works til around 11-12. I tend to stop around 10:30.

I don’t usually work at weekends but DH tends to have at least half a day / a day. This is why I work part time, so we still get family time.

Socialising (when it’s allowed!) is at weekends & in holidays. Nowadays I sometimes walk with a friend one or 2 evenings a week.

Cleaning - we have a cleaner.
Laundry etc I do most of on my days off. I tend to work for the equivalent of school hours on one day off too. The other one I see friends, supermarket shop etc. That used to be on weekends pre dc.

Honestly term time is pretty relentless & not much time for dh & I. Holidays are amazing though.

Timeturnerplease · 16/12/2020 18:43

Up at 6 (awake earlier with two year old but won’t let her into the living room until 6). DP with her while I shower and dress, then swap. I put a load of washing on each morning.
Out at 7, DD to MIL’s for the day (they feed her all three meals)
At school for 7.30, prep then teach all day. Mark at break time and lunch playtime, serve children lunch then bolt mine down.
Marking/photocopying etc until collecting DD by 5 latest. Family time then bath and bed for DD at 6.30-7. DP cooks while I do bedtime routine then we eat. I normally work 7.30-10 every evening, then collect washing from airier and put away, wipe down kitchen and bathroom and go to bed.

PPA morning I drop DD off then come home and blitz the house for an hour or so before heading into school for 9. That’s my weekly main clean, and other bits done at the weekend when DD isn’t too needy.

Sounds manic in the week and it is, but I do not work at weekends and we spend them mostly together as a family. Any socialising takes place on a Saturday afternoon while DP watches football (play dates for DD and I) and in the holidays.

It was much easier when I was childless!

ValancyRedfern · 16/12/2020 19:28

Up at 6.
Leave house at 7. 15 drop dd at childminders then arrive at school 7.45
Prep until 8.30
Teaching until 3.10 (some PPA)
Rehearsals or meeting until 4.30
Planning/marking etc until 5.30
Pick dd up and travel home
Dh working from home at the minute so arrive home to a cooked meal on the table. Bliss! We have a cleaner for 3 hours once a week. I would give up pretty much every bit of spending before giving up that!
I very rarely work in the evenings after dd has gone to bed, but I do work at least one day in the weekend, or work both mornings if I have things on in the afternoon.

ValancyRedfern · 16/12/2020 19:33

One good thing about Covid is I am able to socialise on week nights via Zoom. I could never go out on week nights as I am too tired. Normally in bed by 9.30 or fall asleep with dd at 8.

SleepymummyZzz · 16/12/2020 19:38

Up at 6. Shower and yoga and dog walk (or dog cuddle if it’s raining too hard 😬). Breakfast with DS and sort packed lunches etc.
Leave at 8, arrive at school at 8.10 and do last minute prep.
Teach 9-3.30 (serving lunch in classroom at moment 😔).
Marking and resource prep until 5.30/6.
Usually home by 6.15, quick shower.
6.30 dinner (dh cooks as currently wfh or I batch cook at weekends/holidays)
7 pm Bedtime routine with DS and clean after dinner/general tidy/sort washing etc.
9 pm watch Netflix boxset episode with dh
Bed at 10.30 ish

Planning done few days each week during each holiday and tweaked on Saturday mornings 8-12 most weeks. Proper cleaning for few hours Saturday lunchtime. Try and finish all ‘work’ by 3 on a Saturday and have rest of weekend for family 😊

FrencheFancie · 16/12/2020 21:05

I'm secondary.

6am Alarm. Slosh about in bed, before struggling blearily to the bathroom.
6:20am Get ready.

7:35am Arrive in the staffroom. Sort any photocopies out and see any colleagues that I need to talk to. Quick check of emails to verify there's nothing urgent.
8am First class. Any free slots are used for photocopies, marking, chasing up pupils or pining down SLT to sort out any issues.
5pm Finish classes (I teach abroad and we have a much longer school day).
Home by 5:30ish depending on traffic, what campus I finish on and whether I need to go by the shops.
Planning, marking and/or emails until 7pm most days.

Then lather, rince, repeat!

Cracklefraggle · 16/12/2020 21:50

You are all so organised!!
Alarm goes off at 5.30am, I snooze it until 6, snooze it again until half 6, DH swears at me so I get up. Wander around in a daze until get DD up at 7.15.
Sort out DD's breakfast then wake DH and get dressed 7.30ish.
More wandering atound in a daze until I leave at 8. Into work 8.15 to 8.30 depending on traffic.
Finish anytime between 3 and 5 depending on the day. Family time until DD goes to bed around 7.30 (so well trained Grin). Work until 10. Eat then collapse into bed.
Weekends; sat chill and sun prep for the week.
God I need a holiday Xmas Grin

SionnachRua · 17/12/2020 07:32

8:30 - teaching day starts

Scarby9 · 17/12/2020 16:16

Up at 6.30.
Shower, dress, grab packed lunch from fridge.
Leave house at 6.45 (yes, really. I have mornings down to a fine art, helped by never having worn makeup or eaten breakfast and working far enough away from home for my hair to dry on the way).
Arrive at work at 7.45
Work!
Leave work between 5.30 and 6.30.
Arrive home between 6.30 and 7.30.
Cook or reheat dinner and eat.
Make packed lunch, or remove prepped lunch (eg. homemade soup portion) from freezer.
Load and put on dishwasher.
Sit and watch TV blankly. Skype parents.
8.30 or 9ish Start work for tomorrow.
10.30- 11.30ish Pack bag and make coffee flask for tomorrow. Put by front door.
11 - 11.30ish Bed.

ValancyRedfern · 17/12/2020 16:54

sionach I want to work in your school!!

SionnachRua · 17/12/2020 16:56

@ValancyRedfern

sionach I want to work in your school!!
You might have to move country, I'm in Ireland 🙂. I work longer hours than most primary teachers but with less paperwork, so I think it's about even workload wise.
SionnachRua · 17/12/2020 16:58

Should have said I work longer contact hours than most primary teachers there but am sure you understood! Anyway. Certainly not a perfect system here by any means but England seems to have very harsh requirements.

Bluewavescrashing · 18/12/2020 06:12

Get up 6.15am. Shower, get ready, nag DD10 and DS7 to get ready. Clean out and feed pets. Unload dishwasher. Toast and coffee. Out of the door at 7.40.

Arrive at school 7.45 (literally round the corner.) DD10 walks to breakfast club at Juniors. DS7 comes in with me to infant breakfast club at my school. I avoid copying in the morning as it gets busy. Do other tasks til 8.40am when my TA arrives. Quick chat. Class in at 8.50.

Try to do one thing at lunchtime eg bit of marking, stick things in books etc.

Class go home at 3.25. DH picks up DCs or they go to the childminder. I do planning, marking, assessment, meetings etc til 5.30-6pm then go home. Never bring work home unless it's something mindless like cutting out displays that I can do in front of the TV.

Only works full time as 1. I live so near school, 2. My DCs attend so we are all in the same place, 3. DH picks them up or sorts childminder and cooks dinner (wfh), 4.my school has good policies on workload. 50 hours per week max.

Bluewavescrashing · 18/12/2020 06:14

Also, I was part time for many years and couldn't cope with FT with babies or having a long commute. I go to bed at 9pm and clean at the weekend.

CheesecakeAddict · 18/12/2020 13:11

I'm in a secondary, essay based subject (so heavy marking) with a middle management position but a full teaching timetable. And I'm a single parent.
I get up at 4.30am, shower, get myself ready, bag packed and lunch made (I'm too tired when I get home to do it the night before). Have a coffee and a sit down and watch some TV.
5.45: A quick cuddle with DD and leave her with DM who gets her ready and drops her off at nursery.
6am: go to work.
6.30am arrive at work
4.30pm leave work and pick dd up.
Play with DD, have some tea, and give dd a bath.
7pm me and dd go to bed.
😂

I wake up early naturally (my alarm is set for 5.30). I have a rule that I don't work outside of those hours. Once I leave school, that's it so me and dd get time on an evening and weekends

Dogsaresomucheasier · 22/12/2020 14:04

Alarm at 5.30, stagger out of bed, make packed lunches for me and ds, put last night’s washing up away off the drier and put the washing machine on.
Shower and go to work, arriving at 7.45. Grab any last minute photocopying, run round school logging on and setting up resources in all the rooms I’m teaching in today, respond to emails and attend (online at the moment,) briefing.

Teach actual lessons. Try and get marking done in my frees. Doesn’t always happen,

Go home, arriving by six at the latest. Last lesson ends at 4.30.

Children will be home (older teens looking after 7 year old.) Feed them. Hopefully make sure Ds has some his homework but it’s a bit hit and miss if I’m honest.
Do bedtime with the youngest and quite often fall asleep with him.

By 9.00 be sat at the computer checking resources/reading scheme of work for next day.
In bed by 10.30.

Pay dd to do the ironing, dh works part time and does a lot of the domestic stuff.

PoloNeckKnickers · 22/12/2020 14:45
