Visualiser help!

Could someone please explain to me exactly what a visualiser is? I get the feeling one would be very useful right now and keep seeing people praising them in the TES, but I can't grasp what one is. Is it some kind of modern, fancy-pants OHP which I may still have in my office Blush

Yes, sort of. It displays whatever you place on the visualiser onto a whiteboard and you can then annotate it, discuss and share it etc. We use them to show children's work in the class to others or handwritten notes/ jottings/drawings, sometimes maths explanations etc. The visualiser itself can be anything from a flatbed down to a tripod version, depending on how much money you have! At the moment, a pupil can put their work on the visualiser and the teacher can see it without touching it!

Basically it is a camera that connects to the whiteboard. I love mine, great for going over tests and modelling good answers/ diagrams. Some teachers don’t use it much at all.

I haven’t used the feature but you can record from mine to make your own explanation videos.

Thank you for taking the time to reply - much appreciated Smile

Mine was a godsend in lockdown and I use it most lessons to record a demo or to photograph an example. I teach English.
I tried to acquire a spare but our IT staff said they're quite expensive at the moment. Can't imagine why!!

They are amazing!
Totally came in to their own teaching remotely - piece of paper underneath and you've got a remote (old style) white board.
Great for secondary science when you really want to develop calculations / diagrams or whatever.
Used regularly beforehand for sharing markshemes or anything on paper.
We have ladibugs - around £200.

I plugged mine in again today (have had it unplugged to get Zoom camera working).
It meant I could do a maths lesson without preparing slides - just did it live instead (how to use a protractor)
It's a fab tool, love it!!

Agree with all above comments. I use it daily in school, and it was a godsend while teaching remotely.

Thanks again, everyone Smile. You've all been very helpful.

I use my phone or a class iPad.

Mine falls over all the time. I can definitely see its uses for home teaching though.
