Teacher payrise

www.google.com/amp/s/schoolsweek.co.uk/confirmed-5-5-pay-rise-for-new-starters-and-2-75-increase-for-all-other-teachers/amp/

Has anyone had this payrise or know if/when it's happening?

The article is showing on the browser on my phone, but not on the app, so if you can't see it, it's an article from July saying teachers would be getting a 2.75% payrise in September.

It’s usually paid in November with it back dated to September. But does it have to be passed by Governors? I have a feeling it’s not automatic?

Punkpumpkin · 26/10/2020 23:36

We’ve been told it will be in our November pay backdated from Sept. it’s not a given tho - depends on school as they have to fund it themselves.

LittleMachine · 27/10/2020 08:30

Ah I see, thank you.

I’m not sure that’s right? I think state schools have to pay salaries according to the National pay scales. Unions would have a field day if the didn’t.
MrsHamlet · 27/10/2020 09:41

Ours will be in next months pay. Our defect is huge and growing.

MrsHamlet · 27/10/2020 09:41

Deficit

phlebasconsidered · 27/10/2020 10:17

I have asked our admin when our Academy trust will be paying ours and the silence is deafening. I very much doubt we will get it at all.

fussychica · 27/10/2020 15:43

DS teaches at an Academy. He got confirmation that both his uplift and pay rise which will be paid next month will both be backdated to September 1st.

solidaritea · 27/10/2020 18:04

@Yellowmellow2

You're right for state funded schools, but academies are allowed to set their own pay scales.

Mine has been confirmed as November, backdated to September, despite being an academy. Hooray!

Yellowmellow2 · 27/10/2020 18:14

It seems so unfair. I’m not sure why anyone would want to teach in an academy? Let’s hope they continue with the teachers’ pension. Some of the Private schools have had to replace the teachers’ pension with other schemes that aren’t nearly as good.

GrammarTeacher · 28/10/2020 05:30

It usually goes through after the Governors' Salary Committee has met.
For most that means in the November pay check backdated to September

Martiniwithanolive · 28/10/2020 09:22

if you are on mat leave do you receive it when you go back to work or do I miss out I am going back on Jan not an academy. TIA

phlebasconsidered · 28/10/2020 17:30

Yellow, where I live 3 trusts have taken over virtually all the secondaries and primaries. Within a 40 minute drive I now have only 4 LEA primaries left and a selection of church schools in a trust. I would bet any money they will "fail" the next Ofsted and be snapped up. My last primary got snapped up after failing. One of our inspectors was a director of the Trust who took us over. I complained and pointed out this conflict of interest and was told it was fine!

Subordinateclause · 28/10/2020 22:18

Martini, your mat leave pay is based on what you were earning prior to going off but when you return the pay increase should automatically apply to whatever grade you are on if others in your school have been given it.

Martiniwithanolive · 28/10/2020 22:36

@Subordinateclause thank you

SansaSnark · 29/10/2020 13:00

The school I work at has just transitioned to be part of a different MAT, and the rumour is that we won't be getting the payrise. But we will see, I guess.

Danglingmod · 29/10/2020 15:22

We're part of a MAT that treats staff very fairly and always get the published pay rises.

There isn't a single non-Academy secondary school in my large county, though, so no choice about working for an Academy school.

LittleMachine · 29/10/2020 15:28

I'll have to ask in school if we're getting it. I'm due to move up the pay scale, which as others have said, usually happens in November. I was thinking about what I'll be earning (re-jigging my budget spreadsheet!) and I remembered reading about the pay rise while I was thinking about that, which is what prompted me to ask on here.

I am at independent and we will not get a pay rise and we will come out of the TPS in September 2021.

The academy I left a year ago is not giving all staff the same payrise. No money left in the pot

SaltyAndFresh · 29/10/2020 21:29

How do schools that don't give the payrise manage to recruit? Surely they fall behind year on year and become unattractive as an prospective employer.

carrottopper · 30/10/2020 06:28

We are in an academy and I have received mine this morning and I am £121 down due to tax etc. Will this be because it is backdated??! I'm so upset. I work 2 days so maybe it is because I am now paying more tax?! I wasn't expecting to receive £121 less! Can anyone help please?

carrottopper · 30/10/2020 06:43

There is an M1 at the side of my tax code too. Can anyone help? Our business manager won't be reachable until Monday and I'm worked this is permanent

solidaritea · 30/10/2020 07:49

It may well be that your tax code has changed incorrectly. As this month includes backdated pay, it can mess with the codes and it is very unlikely that you will have less take home pay on a higher salary.

Talk to your business manager first, but you may well end up having to call hmrc for a tax rebate.
