Personal statement for PGCE

Hello all, I'm hoping for a little friendly advice. I'm currently in the process of writing my personal statement for a PGCE course.

This will be a career change for me and my genuine reason for wanting to teach is having seen the profound effect that an excellent and involved teacher had on my son. It made me truly appreciate the impact that just one person can have on a child in such a short space of time.

My concern is that I don't know if I should really mention my children at all in the personal statement other than my career break which has been for childcare reasons. I could come up with other reasons but this is the genuine moment that inspired me. Would it be a bad move to mention it in my personal statement?

Thanks for anyone who stayed to read.

I'm pretty sure I mentioned it in mine in passing in the 'myself and my children have been lucky to have such inspiring teachers and have seen first hand what a difference it can make' . I definitely spoke about them at one of my interviews.
But why i wanted to teach was more about me and what I've experienced. For me it's that light bulb moment. Can't describe it as its more of a feeling but it's pure joy. And I feel as proud of every child I've worked with as I do my own children. Even a tiny success.
I'm currently one term into my PGCE so ping if there's anything I can help with Smile

@namechangedyetagain thank you! I'm volunteering in school now and I absolutely adore it. The satisfaction is second to none so far.

I used to run recruitment for teacher training. They will want to know why so tell them :)
