Has anyone had to stay home for childcare as their child’s bubble has closed?

Hi. Has anyone missed work this term due to having to stay home with their own kids as their kids bubble has closed? If so, what was your schools response and did you get paid? I’m dreading it happening as we both teach and would not feel comfortable asking our parents to babysit, for obvious reasons. I’m not sure what people do in this situation if both parents work (and not from
Home)

Yes. School was fine and I'd better get paid!

Thanks! That’s good to hear

Not yet but this has been my biggest stress so far. My dc go to the same school I work at and my head is amazing so I’m hopeful she would continue to pay. DH & I would try to share a week each too, to minimise impact for each school as much as possible.

We have been told it would be unpaid, but then I don't know who they're expecting to be setting the supply work...

It’s hasn’t happened yet. I’m sure it’s going to. In order to get paid I am going to make damned sure I can teach kids at school while I’m at home. Live remote lessons facilitated by cover supervisor or, failing that, pre-recorded PowerPoints with me live online for questions. Lots of marking on TEAMS etc. Me and DH are going to split the childcare 50/50: I work 3 days so I will only have to teach from home for 1.5 days a week.
Planning for this quite intensively as you can tell Grin

Yes that did cross my mind of no pay then I’ll be setting no work. They can’t have it both ways. I’m not sure what my school would do. A colleague has had her son off but left him with grandad. I’m not willing to do that!

@Hibbetyhob you’re probably right that it would probably be best to divide the childcare by weeks rather than days. Less disruptive on the whole to be ‘remote’ for a week then back In school the following week, rather than in and out day by day. Food for thought.

I'm off at the moment. School were clear that the expectation was that I'm working from home, therefore full pay.
