Is teaching worth it?

I’m 32 and I have 3 children aged 10, 8 and 5. I have a first class social sciences degree. I had a good few years out at home when mine were all super little and then I landed a pastoral role in a secondary school. After two years I left. Wasn’t treated great by SLT and the behaviour worn me down. Felt depressed for a while afterwards and low in confidence. During my time there I assisted teachers in certain lessons, and delivered whole school assemblies on my own so I do have some skills.

Anyway I took a few months out to recover and I now have an interview next Friday for a part time primary TA post. Obviously I am considering teaching If I get on well with this but I have this horrible feeling I’m just wasting my time. I don’t know any happy teachers. Do you think the profession will change any time soon?

I guess all I can do is give this a go. Thanks in advance.

I wouldn’t personally ever work in an independent. It’s just not me.

I got the job. I completed an observed class activity, then I read year 3 a book of my choice.
I enjoyed it and I’m really looking forward to being a TA. Just going into it with the mindset to enjoy it, and be grateful I haven’t got the added responsibilities that the class teachers have.

The key is to choose your school carefully. I teach and am blissfully happy and most of my colleagues seem to feel the same way.

2 years ago, I could have written this post.

I ignored family who were teachers and followed the dream that I had held since childhood.

In one half term, it has almost broken me. I suffer constant stress headaches, have nightmares about school and feel that I am on the brink of a nervous breakdown.

It may be the wrong school so I plan to give another school a try but I wish I had chosen another profession.

I do not think the holidays are even worth it. I have spent the first week of mine working while my children are glued to iPads to occupy themselves.

@MissMissICantDoThis

Try another school and if it’s the same, get out. Nothing is worth that.
