An enjoyable, busy level of stress.
Can tell folk to fuck off right back.
Leave at the end of the day.

I'm at the end of my tether I think.

I used to work in C&A unloading trucks and putting stock out in the morning before uni. The pay was really good and I had no customer contact. Sounds like my dream job at the moment!

My best job was a corporate receptionist. Fancy gifts at Christmas from rich clients and an abundance of gratitude for all the “hard work” I did. (Absolutely wasn’t hard work Wink).

Posh surroundings, tea on tap. My good old days.

My DH (also teacher) looks back to his best job ever as when he worked in the stockroom at Early Learning Centre when he was a student about 30 years ago. He is permanently jealous of the site staff wherever he works as he would love to do that.

My best job was working for an ironing service when I was a teenager. Just used to be 2 or 3 of us working in the shop, customers coming to drop off/collect who were absolutely lovely and appreciated what we did.

Lots of laughs and no stress.

I do sometimes miss it especially when exhausted!

I used to be a supervisor in a Laura Ashley home store. It was lovely. I earned half of my teacher’s wage but once home that was that. I think if I compared by wage to the hours I do the Laura Ashley job was equivalently paid.

My best ever job was being a toll collector on a bridge (deliberately being vague here) during the summer holidays when at university. Very few stroppy drivers; you could have a radio on and if I was on the late shift I got loads of reading done. I loved the solitude and not having to interact with colleagues.

It's been downhill ever since Sad

I've always fancied working in a little greengrocers, with a heater by my till and a coat on. I'd have a book on the go for when there were no customers. Boredom would be averted by occasionally sweeping the floor and having a natter with lonely little old ladies.

I used to dream about being a delivery driver for Tesco before it got stressful. Would love to drive around all day.

Did a call centre job that was full timer over 4 days 8-6 and took between 1 and 4 calls a day. Also did some temp cover at a reception desk at an Audi dealers that was nice.

Or maybe delivering new cars - that would be so good! Like the person who will drive mine to my house how awesome would it be driving Mercedes around all day.

I teach four days and can JUST about handle it Confused

I spent two years as a historical document archivist. I could go days without seeing anyone. Just me and ancient paper. Plus I got given free gloves! Then 3 years in a very specific academic subject library where I had a lovely office and rarely saw more than 2 or 3 researchers a day.

I would love to go back to that sector but there are bugger all jobs in it anymore. Digitised stuff just isn't the same.

Agree about the pay...12 hour days And weekends lost and constantly feeling you are missing something.

Had yet another conversation Today with hubby about what else I can do. But at 49 I can’t see what I could do..and yes I would take a pay cut. What’s the point of working somewhere where you have no life outside of the job 🥺
