Will i be able to gain QTS with an open degree?

Basically the reason for the open degree was that I could start it this coming January rather than October (open university).

As I am doing it part time while working this will basically mean I can do 60 credits between january and October and effectively save myself a year in the long run.

First stage I am looking at doing a science module (60 credits), maths (30 credits), and English (30 credits). Stage 2 and 3 will then be modules based on primary teaching.

Do you think I would be able to go on to gain QTS with this open degree rather than a named degree?

I read somewhere that you don't need a specific teaching degree to go on to get QTS but thought I would check here first.

Obviously by gain QTS I mean qualify to go on a qts course or pgce.

I have an OU degree, BSc but no named subject, graduated in 1997 and have been teaching for 20 years (PGCE in 2000). No problem at all. However, you ideally need a first or 2:1.

Brilliant thank you very much.

I did the same as you - worked full time but still managed to do the whole thing in four years.

Same here . Not a names degree but bsc (open)2.1

Thanks guys, next question... I start a 60 credit module in febuary. Once I have done that can I do the remaining 60 credits for stage one and 60 credits of stage 2 at the same time or will I have to fully complete stage one before going onto stage 2?

Thanks again

I have an Open degree and a place on a PGCE next year. Two of my modules were primary education.

I think you can do them simultaneously, but do check - I did a level 2 and a level 3 alongside each other one year. I remember that there were six modules altogether, I think, and I often did 90 credits at once to speed things up, hence finishing the whole thing in four years instead of six.
