Any cover managers or cover supervisors out there? How are you coping since coming back?

First week we were so quiet, this week and last I haven’t had a single minute to spare (I have other roles to do too) No one tested positive so far, thankfully, just a steady trickle of two or three a day.But the staff are getting hammered for cover. Originally I was told that day to day cover was out of the question, but now I can get it. But, I’m nervous of that, do we want people going from school to school? I just feel like I’m being swamped with absences and cover.
Anyone else?

I'm a cover organiser and it's hell. 16 members of staff off this week. Using lots of external cover but have the same concern about them being in lots of schools, trying to use the same ones every day. Also part of the team responding to teachers who need students removed from class for displaying Covid symptoms, with everything that needs to be filled in it takes forever. On the switchboard loop and we are receiving hundreds of calls a day from parents.

This week have also had to help cover Main Reception as receptionist unwell. IT isn't working so sorting out cover work when I can't guarantee I can give the cover teacher a working device is horrific especially as due to IT issues I can't connect to the printers!

There is no way this can continue. Last week we were at 96% student attendance. Since then we have one year group at home due to a positive case and 74% attendance amongst the remaining students. It falls about 4% a day.

This morning we were told a local primary had to shut two years due to a positive case. Multiple staff with children there so we are starting next week with loads of staff down already. Every day multiple new staff call in unable to come to school.

I cannot sustain this level of stress for three months to Christmas. Nor can anyone in my office. The finance officer is on her knees with the sheer amount of Covid related stuff we are having to buy. Our budgets for this year are blown already just three weeks in.

I really feel your pain.☝️ that is awful, and similar to what I'm seeing at my school.
But still... Parents insisting that their darling won't wear masks.
This should be headline news. I give schools another week, tops. I heard they were going to try to align a shutdown with half term but I seriously can't see us lasting that long.
Unless they bring half term forward 😳

Can I ask (curiosity, really) if a child is off due to the year group being off, are schools insisting that the teacher parent stay home with them (just in case, child not known to be infected), insisting they try and get the child's other parent if not a KW should stay home with the child, or leaving it up to the teacher parent?

The teachers don't have to self isolate just their children but for primary school age they are then hit with a childcare issue. Single parents have no options. Those with partners are splitting it.

I’m feeling much the same, I told my head that I feel like I’m standing in front of a train.(there’s just me) she says if we make it to half term We’ll be lucky, second stage (partial shutdowns) is looming very soon. Also spoke to my main two agencies and we have small bubbles of teachers (luckily 4 live in town)Available. But all the tension and stress of pre lockdown Is building up. And yes, the ubiquitous it problems.
