You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff only – a sort of room of requirement. Baiters, haters, goaders and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

You can play here if you are a member of one the following groups-

-ABBA - anti bashers and baiting association
-SWAB - school workers against bashers
-SWOT - school workers opposing teacherbashers
-STARS - schoolworkers together against ranting + slurs

Do not give ‘The Every twat for Themselves mob’ the staffroom password as a number of them are operating in an alternative reality.

No DfE muppets allowed

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the toffee vodka is hidden.

If you are fed up with cakes and biscuits there is now a cheeseboard on offer

If you come with a stick to goad us then that is not allowed in the staffroom, especially if you have not used the hand gel. Close the door quietly on your way out and put your mask on.

No desk wiping here, the kids are in bubbles so they can sit at any desk within their zone with no cleaning.

But then teacher desks aren’t being wiped either because we all use hand sanitiser.

If anyone in the maths dept gets it I think we will all be off because we are spending so much time together in our office due to no classrooms.

EducatingArti · 09/09/2020 07:41

There are 32 schools now in Greater Manchester with students/teachers sent home to isolate.

Flagsfiend · 09/09/2020 07:43

It feels like it's only a matter of time. I've already got kids off quarantining as they have household members with a positive test, just hope they weren't the asymptomatic carrier into the family... I do feel like my school has done everything possible within the guidelines, but I don't think it will make that much difference - just takes 1 person to attend school with it and that will be it.

ineedaholidaynow · 09/09/2020 07:43

Do you not have seating plans @noblegiraffe?

SaltyAndFresh · 09/09/2020 07:56

I hope you've lined up a solicitor for when you sue the arse of your employer @Piggy. We don't have year group zones but we do clean between every class.

noblegiraffe · 09/09/2020 08:33

ineed, only normal seating plans that class teachers can change whenever they like. So I went to my Y7s yesterday and they’d just had English and then they got out of their seats and moved to their maths places (no desk wiping).

Other year groups are having to move classrooms within their zones because of options subjects and sets.

I think if my school is going to send just close contacts home they will count everyone in their classes. But the assumption is that it would be the whole bubble.

Piggywaspushed · 09/09/2020 08:37

Everything is in writing salty....put it that way...

Piggywaspushed · 09/09/2020 08:40

There is zero media coverage of all these school disruptions (someone on another thread said the coverage was hysterical!) I think this gathering of 6 thing is to distract the press away form the issue of schools?

noblegiraffe · 09/09/2020 08:43

No, piggy I think the gathering of 6 thing is to distract the press away from the government breaking an international treaty, plus the resignation of government lawyers. If you look at the papers today, they nearly managed it.

starrynight19 · 09/09/2020 08:49

It’s actually disgraceful no one is covering all these school closures.
Me and dd still waiting for results. If they are positive that means her and my class have been in school for three days since we started with symptoms Sad

SaltyAndFresh · 09/09/2020 08:55

Nearest test site coming up is 53 miles away but no tests within 14 days ... 119 just automatically hung up on me as there's nothing available.

Keepdistance · 09/09/2020 09:15

It's intentional.
It seems they dont bother to gag the local papers.

Problem is kids and adults dont go from ok to symtoms immediately. There's a grey area.

noblegiraffe · 09/09/2020 09:30

Have you seen the test referrals for essential workers include symptomatic household contacts, salty?

I know you shouldn't have to buy your own wipes, but this is what we use for surfaces at work so should be more than adequate. They still seem quite reasonably priced.

Eat out to help out the virus, go back to Pret work, go back to school but don't gather inside or outside in groups of more than 6. Unless you are at school, work, in a restaurant or pub, in a sports club, or everywhere anywhere else we've decided is exempt. And yes, those were the rules you weren't following and we weren't enforcing inside before, we've just extended them so you can not follow them outside as well. But we would like you to try because, like going for a drive to test your eyesight, you shouldn't break the law in a limited and specific way just because we are.

Is that about where we are with the messaging at the moment?

Danglingmod · 09/09/2020 09:59

Strict seating plan with kids next to the same people in every lesson here, Noble (obvs ks3 only). Idea that only a few kids would need to SI if one tests positive. But it looks like local health boards are going for the super safe approach and sending home entire year groups.

motherrunner · 09/09/2020 10:04

A local high school has sent home its entire sixth form due to a positive case so that’s 2 primary schools and 2 high schools in my region closing bubbles since Monday.

Thank you! Just bought twoSmile Have spent a small fortune kitting out DH and I for school with PPE (gloves, masks, wipes, visors, spray... what's a bit more eh?GrinShockConfused)
SaltyAndFresh · 09/09/2020 10:44

I managed to get one in the end, but even lying about it being me needing the test didn't work earlier! It was after 10 by the time I was able to book.

The problem with buying your own wipes like that is that it's enough for 4 classes so you'd be paying about £60 a week.

Keepdistance · 09/09/2020 10:46

Ive had to report myself on the vaccine thread.
I dont really think im wrong but was getting a pile on so decided to remove it. (Before i get banned).
and they were (purposely?) Misunderstanding. I just thought something was interesting.

Hodgeheg92 · 09/09/2020 10:59

Oh I've found my people. Been wanting to hear what other schools are like but didn't know where to look.

I'm in an inner city primary. Already isolating while awaiting test results for one of my DC, who I was lucky enough to get a test for straight away but it's been 2 days of waiting since. I'm struggling to sleep with the uncertainty and completely agree with those who've mentioned feeling totally overwhelmed with the amount we've got to think about. Our school have put what they can in place, I feel, but this is very little. The main stress for me has been our SLT being very standoffish and not open to feedback at all (not that that's new)

HarveySchlumpfenburger · 09/09/2020 11:19

Given that most transmission is likely aerosol I’m not sure how much benefit there is. I probably wouldn’t bother with the pupil desks if I was paying for it myself. High touch areas like door handles/plates, light switches, shared keyboards is probably what I’d focus on.
Piggywaspushed · 09/09/2020 11:30

Oh yes, that too noble Hmm

It really is Animal Farm.

ohthegoats · 09/09/2020 11:33

I think they'll watch this carnage for a few more weeks, then start making it so that schools just don't close at all other than if you have a positive test (teacher or child). Families will be isolating all over the place, but if parents keep children off due to anxiety, then that's their problem, use Oak.

Not having a feeling positive sort of day!!

Me and the other KS2 phase leader had a meeting this morning, and have decided to link Oak as our remote learning for foundation subjects. Will use some video lessons around the Talk for Writing resources for English, and White Rose for maths. Printed packs for all of it if we have time/chance. Then reading a class book Jackanory style.

Think that's the easiest option, but also contains some personal stuff for English and reading of a class book. They can email us work if they can be arsed, and we've got Teams to use if we can get it to work. I'm guessing it'll be back to the class page on the school website.

Good to have that sorted. I had to name a document "Remote Learning Isolation 1" though, which was a bit dystopian.

TheOnlyMrsW · 09/09/2020 11:41

morning all, not a teacher but delurking for a moment to say I think you're all amazing and am so grateful for all you, this absolute disgrace of a government should be ashamed of what they're putting teachers and school staff through.
Also, whoever mentioned student librarians DD in yr10 has been a student librarian since yr8 and it's the best part of her whole school week!

SaltyAndFresh · 09/09/2020 11:44

Thank you MrsW. Any appreciation gratefully received and hoarded away for darker moments.
