You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff only – a sort of room of requirement. Baiters, haters, goaders and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

You can play here if you are a member of one the following groups-

-ABBA - anti bashers and baiting association
-SWAB - school workers against bashers
-SWOT - school workers opposing teacherbashers
-STARS - schoolworkers together against ranting + slurs

Do not give ‘The Every twat for Themselves mob’ the staffroom password as a number of them are operating in an alternative reality.

No DfE muppets allowed

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the toffee vodka is hidden.

If you are fed up with cakes and biscuits there is now a cheeseboard on offer

If you come with a stick to goad us then that is not allowed in the staffroom, especially if you have not used the hand gel. Close the door quietly on your way out and put your mask on.

Somebody has just linked that shitty invalid research on DFE FB.

Hercwasonaroll · 04/09/2020 22:36

No sign of our RA. Apparently we'll see it once it's on the website... Kids back Monday.

StaffAssociationRepresentative · 04/09/2020 22:46

The lack of SD at school this week has led to a lot of parental complaints today. Therefore in spite of all the hand gel, one way systems, hand washing stations, extra cleaning during the school day, temperatures checks, fogging the school every 48 hours, marquees providing extra dining room on tennis courts, from Monday masks will be compulsory for all

In other news ds has just come in to my room wearing his blazer. In my head he hadn't grown that much but I see now I was wrong. And the cost of uniform has risen exponentially. My own fault. Panic buying on the criminally overpriced PMG.

KatherineOfGaunt · 04/09/2020 22:49

My throat is currently feeling scratchy. I could really do without the internal worry about whether or not I'll need to call in on Monday (my first day with the kids) and tell them I'm self-isolating...

Hercwasonaroll · 04/09/2020 22:49

Oh gosh staff, that will be interesting.

Temperature checks are unusual, are you private?

We have both extremes, some can't wait to be back. Whereas other parents are terrified and understand that social distancing doesn't apply in the bubble.

Hercwasonaroll · 04/09/2020 22:50

Katherine can you book a drive in test? Try and book it now JIC.

ineedaholidaynow · 04/09/2020 22:54

Our risks assessments are on the website and have been sent to parents.

Yep I moved to private over a year ago after doing my time in London state . I felt I was going to be carried out in a casket from the last post as head of sixth in a 1600 student school due to the long hours worked and the stress of all the duties.

I am at a small selective Indie so it is very different. Every form tutor has a temp check thermometer (gun type) to run checks first thing in the morning. A number of other local indies are doing the same thing - it is like being in a arms race!

People will start accusing you of holding a gun to their child's head and threatening to vaccinate them @StaffAssociationRepresentative!

Kashtan · 04/09/2020 23:38

@CallmeAngelina
It’s really interesting to have primary views on the y7 starters.
I think some of the problems lie with the wide variety of approaches the kids have had. We typically take from around 40 primaries, ranging from small classes private who already have homework every night, via the tiny remote rural schools where they have had the same teacher since y3 and s/he doesn’t believe in homework and doesn’t like science so rarely teaches it to the three form intake town primaries where they come and use our facilities for sports days, plays etc and so those kids are quite comfortable with the transition.
Anyway since we can’t do practicalS with them this year, we will be doing more writing so I shall be pushing them to more than normal in that department.

Thanks, I'm going to see how I am in the morning, @Hercwasonaroll. Hopefully I'll wake up feeling fine (if tired).

Fusckssake, toddler stared the day at 5. I needed a lie in today!

motherrunner · 05/09/2020 06:26

Today’s BBC headline: “Coronavirus: Schools 'no greater risk than home' for pupils and staff.”

But the. 2/3 down it does say: “Secondary schools were not included in the study, so no conclusions can be drawn about older children.”

I guess we’ll find out in a few weeks!

Serious cut and paste error there - not sure why the whole article came up!

NeurotrashWarrior · 05/09/2020 06:45

It's been bars apparently driving infections round here.

monkeysox · 05/09/2020 07:11

I live in one of the areas of concern and travel.to another town to teach.
Do I'd we get local lockdown I won't be able to have a cuppa with anyone in my town but can be in a sports hall with 90 y7s. Hmm

WhyNotMe40 · 05/09/2020 07:41

The local "weatherpoos" near me is apparently a complete mosh pit at the bar. Tables are set out but they are not enforcing people to sit at them.

WhyNotMe40 · 05/09/2020 07:45

I posted earlier about symptoms. My eldest (under 10) has been having headaches and stomachache which we put down to restarting school nerves. But she now has diarrhoea.
I was nauseous yesterday and have woken up feeling very very nauseous.
But not one of the 3 main symptoms.
Wwyd?

That would be Wetherspoons that already had an app so you don’t need to order at the bar.

Honestly some people are their own worst enemies.

motherrunner · 05/09/2020 07:48

I would go with your gut reaction. I would self isolate and test but I have got to the point that I will be isolating at the hint of a temp or sore throat and be damned with the consequences at work.

Sorry you're all feeling unwell.

Did you get a test? I'd possibly see if you can for all of you. Was just reading the bbc report that gastric symptoms more common in children and teens.

WhyNotMe40 · 05/09/2020 07:57

Thanks. That's what I was thinking.
