How the hell are we going to teach this year?

Just that.
I'm a primary teacher who usually:

  • uses loads of resources in maths lessons
  • doesn't like ability grouping but uses flexible grouping depending on AfL
  • encouarages lots of peer learning/assessment
The list goes on! As restarting school gets closer, I just can't figure out how I can properly teach children without all these things! Has anyone had any bright ideas?

Why no resources in maths? Either give each table/child a tray with their own cubes, counters etc so they always use the same ones. Or have a bucket of Milton at the back of the room to chuck everything into for 15 mins at the end of the day, then leave on the side to dry overnight. I know several schools doing this.

That’s rubbish. In which case I’d be asking the person who wrote the policy to come and demonstrate how they’d like you to teach with no resources. Just so you can learn of course 😉

What about marking?

My plan at the moment is to get the children to leave theirs books open on their tables at the end of the day and then move round the tables marking while wearing a mask and gloves.

I normally mark quite a lot as I circulate, so it will be interesting to see how much longer it takes!

I’m also interested in how partner talk is going to work when they both have to face forwards! I’m imagining them talking out of the sides of their mouths like spies meeting on a park bench!
