Living close to school

Hello I’m an NQT and am relocating to the SE for a Year 2 teaching job. I was wondering what your own policy is on living close to the school ie walking distance. Both teachers in my family have warned me not to as you don’t want parents demanding full on meetings in Asda. However, I don’t drive and I’m wondering is the risk of bumping into parents worth the added stress of public transport? Curious to hear your thoughts! For those who live close to the school are you really a walking curiosity?? x

My road is fairly close to a school. Two teachers from that school live on it, as do a number of children from the school. Isn't an issue at all.

No problem - I live locally to mine and the kids certainly know where I live as have a fairly distinctive house and pupils have commented on it. Often see them passing, they wave and call out 'Hello, Mrs X...' -no issue.

I don't live in catchment, but live close enough that the big supermarkets/family day out places/towns overlap with the area I teach. I've never had any issues beyond some students saying hi or them coming into school on Monday saying they saw me at the park with DC and the dogs.

I had coursework posted through my letterbox on a Sunday afternoon, when they knew the deadline for my marking to be submitted was the Monday. That was unusual though, usually parents and kids are friendly when you live nearby, but nothing more.
