Hi there,

I've just finished my PGCE secondary in a fairly small department subject and as such I sadly haven't secured an NQT placement for September. Rather at the last minute a job has come up locally and I have an interview for it next week and I'd love some hints/tips or just any old advice as I would love to put my best foot forward and be a strong candidate.

Thanks.

Why do you want to work there?
Why do you want to teach x?
What is the best thing about your subject?

Don't parrot the ofsted or the website but have intelligent questions to ask which show you've done your homework

Thank you

What does a good/outstanding lesson look like?
How do you manage behaviour?
Safeguarding.
Good luck!

What subject is it?

When they ask you if you have any questions I found a good one is to ask what the interviewer would say is the best thing about the school.

It’s hard to do it without visiting beforehand because it’s always nice to say that you saw how the values were apparent in the school (with specific examples).

Also I also found in a mock interview I had through uni that even if the other interviewer asked a question I would answer it to the head 😂 so don’t do that!

Good luck x

What do you understand about 'mastery'?
How would you handle a situation with an irate parent?

There will ALWAYS be a safeguarding question but it may be disguised under a veilf of something else or a scenario situation, so if you haven't answered any questions along the lines of safeguarding, make sure you get it in there.
