I am a primary teacher so thankfully have had little to do with the exam results debacle, but just hoping you're all okay. What a horrible position you have all been put in, hope your students were given fair results and your input was taken into account Flowers. Just that really, not sure if it's a waste of a thread, but although lots seem heartbroken for the students, it's also hard on us in these situations isn't it.

Thank you Flowers I'm fortunate that my students got the grades I submitted. They were, hand on heart, based on the attainment data of those students so I am pleased.

A couple of subjects at my school seem to have been downgraded a bit Sad I don't understand it because their submitted grades were also based on genuine student attainment.

GCSE results next week!

Thank you. My students have been utterly shafted and I'm feeling gutted for them. They have simply been dropped a grade - and in some cases two - with no explanation whatsoever. I've got kids who got 2 grades higher in their mocks than they have now been awarded.

It's an utter shit show and lots of them are feeling suicidal.

@PumpkinPie2016 I am intrigued about the algorithm they used, although I doubt the intricacies will ever fully be released for public scrutiny, unfortunately. I cannot believe he had the audacity to say it's because if students are given higher than their actual potential they will be promoted to higher levels than they are able to work at, the irony. It also shows a lack of trust in teachers, they have more faith in a random method they have plucked out of thin air, than the integrity of teachers being honest. It's shameful. Goodness yes, hopefully they have found a fairer way.

@BlessYourCottonSocks so sorry to hear that, it's all such a shitshow, and heartbreaking Sad. I honestly don't know how they came up with this way, it's so cruel.

It's utter rubbish Sad

THe more I read and hear, the more scandalous this becomes. Other countries have taken a wholly different, more humane approach.

What if there had been a slight upward blip this year?

Why not start on the basis that the TAs would be accurate, but sample check and look at outliers?

Why not release the CAGs back to schools early (as was the original plan) and avoid this stressful scrambled last minute triple lock fiasco?

The government has shown utter contempt for young people and for teachers. And I’m afraid if I hear any mealy-mouthed platitudes about mental health from anyone at the DFE or in government, I may explode.

partystress · 14/08/2020 20:54

Sorry, release the standardised grades

Guardian reporting even more changes to GCSEs. I feel genuinely sick.
