You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff. Baiters and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

You can play here only if you are a member of one the following groups-

-ABBA - anti bashers and baiting association
-SWAB - school workers against bashers
-SWOT - school workers opposing teacherbashers
-STARS - schoolworkers together against ranting + slurs

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the toffee vodka is hidden.

If you are fed up with cakes and biscuits there is now a cheeseboard on offer

If you come with a stick to beat us with then please do so elsewhere and not in the staffroom

@RafaIsTheKingOfClay

We’ve moved on from the numbers are so high because we’re testing more to it’s because the targeting is more targeted. Presumably even the deniers were forced into admitting that the number of cases was rising faster than the number of tests.

Relax & enjoy the view piggy.

That 'reason' won't last long considering that test and trace has become less effective week on week since it launched.
MrsHerculePoirot · 14/08/2020 20:51

Testing here seems to have got less efficient too. Three of us had tests at noon on a Sunday a month or so ago with results at 6am Monday. DH has test yesterday evening STILL no results... so we’re all stuck in the house until further notice FFS. Think he’s just got a cold and not actually lost taste and smell.... so now we’re all trying to stay apart in the house too... it’s made me really realise what a shambles next academic year will be if we have to do this everyone one of us gets unwell....

Iamnotthe1 · 14/08/2020 20:55

@MrsHerculePoirot

Don't say that too loud though or the next U4T solution will be for teachers to sleep at school so they don't have to worry about their families.

FrippEnos · 14/08/2020 21:02

@Iamnotthe1

And look after the keyworker kids and pay for the privilege.

Iamnotthe1 · 14/08/2020 21:12

@FrippEnos

It's our civic duty and of course we'd have to pay something towards room and food - teachers just think they're on a free ride sometimes...

Don't you know that, right at the start of the pandemic, my uncle's mother-in-law's dog worked in a supermarket with no PPE? Teachers should be bloody grateful.

TheHoneyBadger · 14/08/2020 21:35

Well my next door neighbour but one’s cousin’s husband who is a top veterinarian has been treating cats without ppe since day one and cats catch it far more than children. She says her cousin’s husband thinks we are all hysterical lefties without a can do attitude and he’d happily spay us all to get our wandering wombs dealt with.

Iamnotthe1 · 14/08/2020 21:41

And expose ourselves to those super spreader cats? No thank you!

AugustBreeze · 14/08/2020 21:43

I'm pretty sure there was nothing in the Guidance re key stages.... unless it's been in the two updates but I don't think so.

It just says staff aren't in the bubbles.

Iamnotthe1 · 14/08/2020 22:32

Given that prior attainment groups have been important in the calculating of A level grades, do we reckon that will mean that the KS2 SAT results are going to be quite a significant part of determining the actual GCSE grades? That'll blow some parents' minds.

Hercwasonaroll · 14/08/2020 22:42

Gem from my Facebook rage post today.

Ex teacher thinks just mock grades should stand because "not all teachers are honest".

I don't have a facepalm big enough for that one.

They're not that important at all; the most important factor seems to be your historical centre performance in the last few years (3 for A-level, 2 for GCSE). If you didn't have enough A* in the last few years then you can't have too any this year... if your centre had a couple of U grades in the past then you have to have some this year, even if your lowest ranked candidate this year was far above being a U....

Love this. It sums the teacher bashing up perfectly.

My cousin sent me an ICS report explaining why we shouldn't become complacent about Covid today. I can't bring myself to read it but I've asked her (tongue in cheek) to sue the fuck out of whoever can be held to account if I come out of this badly.

I'm really sick and tired of other public sector, care and retail workers sticking the knife in now. Having done my best to highlight the risks they were taking and raised money for PPE, I'm really upset that some of them are determined to stick the boot in where teachers are concerned. We've become a pretty vindictive society Sad

SaltyAndFresh · 14/08/2020 22:49

Horrible mixed metaphors in my post there. Too much Wine

Why don’t I book the Eurostar for a Republic trip to France on the 30 August? We can then all go into quarantine when we return.

Coronavirus: Pupils from two Coatbridge schools test positive www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-scotland-glasgow-west-53785732 Five linked teenagers test positive from presumably mixing outside of school. Obviously this would never happen in school would it? No need for physical distancing at all. FFS.

StaffAssociationRepresentative · 14/08/2020 23:07

What happens when pupils test positive that I teach? Do I go home and have a test?

You have to wonder who is paying these arseholes off.

Just as there is no evidence that they contracted it in school their is no evidence that they contracted it outside of school.

At my place, only if we have been in close contact. Which we aren’t supposed to be, so presumably we will only have ourselves to blame.

No, because you were 2m away from them the whole time and the Covid knows to stop at 2m.

If you do need to be tested because you did go within 2m, then you’ll be facing a disciplinary for breaking the rules Grin.?

hedgehogger1 · 14/08/2020 23:13

I'm across 3,4 and 5 too. In a massive school. Hubby's come home from work today to say the guy next to him in the office had a phone call from his gfriend to say she's now got Covid symptoms. Assuming that's far enough removed that we won't get track and traced if her test comes back positive

Iamnotthe1 · 14/08/2020 23:31

@BlanketyBlankAgain

According to the documentation from Ofqual, prior attainment is one of the key factors in their model.

"That prediction is based on the historical performance of the school or college in that subject taking into account any changes in the prior attainment of candidates entering this year compared to previous years"

Yes, but when you look at the actual details issued with the results which indicates the % prior attainment adjustment at each grade it makes very little difference in practice... [Am a data manager amongst other things, have gone through all the calculations for our results in every subject, to ascertain how the algorithm makes adjustments from C to U grades possible....]
