2m in primary

Has anyone thought or been given advice on how the 2m rule will work? How will you check or help pupils? How will you hear 1-2-1 readers? Etc

Are you asking as school staff?

The two metre rule has never needed to be enforced in primary (according to guidance) and has now been relaxed for everyone.

I’ve just realised you mean as an adult, rather than for pupils. Yeah, dunno! Even for secondary, we’ve been told to stay at the front, but I don’t know anyone who’ll find that ‘natural’. I guess 1-2-1 reading could take place at a distance, but would need to be somewhere quieter, which would then impact on staffing... has your school not offered guidance on this?

ohthegoats · 21/07/2020 23:50

It's impossible.

Piggywaspushed · 22/07/2020 07:57

I have not seen any answer anywhere, or even any discussion, about TAs in all this!

It's all to do with track and trace. It's an effort to reduce staff absence. But then I don't understand how whole bubbles pop with two cases (certainly at secondary) if they know who has been near a student for 15 minutes (before the lockdown we were manically doing seating plans). Do they just assume that it is too complex to track and trace teenagers?

Flagsfiend · 22/07/2020 10:47

I wonder if the whole bubble popping if there are 2 cases and they aren't usually sat next to each other is because it's assumed there are lots of either asymptomatic cases or one's where the symptoms are so slight that it's actually much more widespread. I'm hoping that with 1 case we'd still send immediate contacts home, but the guidance isn't clear. We usually have seating plans so given the name of a child I could tell you who was within 2m in my lesson very quickly.

@Piggywaspushed I do think we should note that there is nothing in the Guidance to say bubbles "pop" automatically at two confirmed cases - it says guidance to be taken from local health officials, whole groups may be sent home.....

Oh, really? I thought the guidance said the bubble would close after two confirmed cases?

Has that changed or did I misunderstand?

Piggywaspushed · 22/07/2020 19:41

Yes, true. It does not say they automatically pop. I think with those big secondary school bubbles they won't.

JulyBreeze · 22/07/2020 23:44

@Appuskidu that's how it's been summarised in leaks and in media, so it has passed into most people's consciousness. It isn't what the guidance actually says, which is more like "Well, it might pop... "

1 to 1 readers...this far, I have been able to take individuals into a spare classroom and use the interactive whiteboard, putting Oxford Owl up. Child has been able to read happily to me, I've been able to both keep my distance and see the text. Visualizer is another possibility. But that's not going to be able to happen come September.

Otherwise, I guess you're looking at a copy of the text for them and an identical one for you?

Or potentially...Google meet where you show a book rather than yourself, and they read it from their computer?

Lancrelady80 · 24/07/2020 22:29

Checking/helping pupils...mini whiteboards. Standing behind them to see what they are doing. Not ideal, not even sure if there's enough room to do that once they're all back.

Whywhywhy1 · 24/07/2020 22:42

We have been told we must stay at the front of the class 2m away at all times so I don’t think any of these things will be able to happen.

Im hoping dc school will buy bug club so at least no physical books going home.

DrMadelineMaxwell · 28/07/2020 22:28

Adults need to distance still in Wales. Inc from the children wherever possible.
