TA to Teacher tips

How do you make the jump? In your mind as it were? How do you stop seeing yourself as a TA and start being more like a teacher?

Just wondering who else has gone into teaching and how they found the transition?

Go in with an open mind, you will have lots to learn. I felt a, perhaps unfair, expectation to be wonderful with bottom sets/challenging kids when I, in fact, had to learn a lot of classroom management.

I have loads to learn. I think I'm worried that initially they put you in a small group / supporting role and I will kind of get stuck there?

I do have a bit of an issue with never thinking I'm good enough and I do need to work on my confidence.

Actually I have so much to learn I hope I get through the next year!

Some people start having only done the basic requirement of observations and need to observe quite a bit initially. You will be ready to get stuck in without acclimatising. That’s a good thing!

I cannot wait to start. Hopefully I'll get the time to get to know the class first. I think that will be important.
