What will your EYFS provision look like in September? Are you expecting to be teaching Reception at desks?

Paeet but our email to whole scgool said desks...

But im not sure they are currently doibg that with yr r plus i dont think there is space or desks...
Anyway ours share toilets with the other reception class.
My 4yo wont sit down all day so im hoping either lots of time outside cutting down the hours a lot.

Useruseruserusee · 03/07/2020 19:30

No we aren’t doing desks. We will remove desks apart from a few and have a larger carpet space for them to sit in (all facing forwards) for whole class inputs, which will be minimal. Then using the outdoor provision as much as possible but not expecting social distancing.

Our two Reception classes will be a year group bubble to allow equal access to all provision.

Useruseruserusee · 03/07/2020 19:31

It will be the same for Y1 initially as we will continue the EYFS curriculum for them for the first half term.

Snuggles81 · 03/07/2020 21:35

Our eyfs and year 1 will be continuing continuous provision as they have been during this time. The safety measures of cleaning will be increased. Sitting as desks all day is not appropriate education for young children.

So are you bubbling 60 together or less than that? Just wondering if i need to get used to thinking it might be 60 as what huffington were saying was classes wasnt it not year groups? Apart from secondary?

Useruseruserusee · 04/07/2020 10:43

Keep we are bubbling 60 children in reception.

Heard from my head yesterday ours will be at desks in September Shock My current yrR class are now and getting on fine apparently, I’m not there as I’m shielding. They will have lots of adult directed activities and no access to continuous provision Sad My head has said they can access a limited amount of provision outside each day (but that needs to be plastic so it can be washed at the r d of the day. I’ve never taught this way and struggling to see how I can teach like this. I want to support my SLT and try it at least. Am hoping we can have lots of time on the school field but without resources to support learning that’s going to be tricky. I only trained two years ago so have no idea how to teach in a formal way, we’ve always done in the moment planning! I need a much more experienced teacher to share (very!) old example plans but I’m single firm entry.

Sleepy that’s interesting! I’m SLT and no school in our borough is going for desks for EYFS. To be fair our reception are at desks at the moment and they are completely fine but they are only at them briefly and then off into continuous provision.

Keepdistance · 05/07/2020 21:09

If i had a single form entry i would probably group them to 15 and have half outside half inside. As much as possible. So for phonics only half as many sat close together.
It looked like our had the reading to TA outside too.
Im hoping the school will sign up to phonic bug so we dont have books coming home.
And instead of sticking in the phonics they could just make up the whole book/booklet for each child. Though i think that was used at school too. But anyway i think we have a complete one from dc1.
Water bottles are an issue as ours twist to open and the bit twists out and goes in mouth...
None of it is ideal for yr r which is why i ideally would just miss the winter term. I honestly feel it will be quite off putting.
Or i would have each doing 2.5days if it werent for the childcare aspect. As 5 days is a lot anyway and if some of the fun stuff is lost..
And many kids will have missed some preschool or at minimum will have not been for months so stamina and concentration reduced.

Afternoons were mainly play anyway.
Weather is going to have a big impact

I’m sorry but this is so wrong. I suspect your head is not experienced in EYFS practice? It’s not unusual for heads to not be experienced in early years education and try and enforce KS1 and KS2 practice. I’m a head and I used to teach reception so I am EYFS trained. My reception and Y1 classes will not have rows of desks and will be taught using EYFS strategies. The taught of such young children sitting in rows is just awful.
southchinasea · 07/07/2020 20:59

We will not be sitting at desks. We will have continuous provision indoors and especially outdoors and work as a year group bubble of 60 children and 4 adults. Lots of hand washing and staggered breaks, separate entrance, extra cleaning etc. But hoping to be more or less as normal teaching and learning wise.

Since our return in June we have been at desks and this has worked okay for us at this stage of the year. It wasn't what we would have preferred but we were asked to do so by our Head.

With small groups of 15 with 2 adults we have made it work by having 2 groups and alternating 25 min sessions at desks with a session outside where they can play and be active (with resources more limited than usual). The nature of our intake means they feel more like a Year R/1 mix and have coped well with the structure for these few weeks at the end of the year. Plus they are just so happy to see some other children after lockdown and be back at school.

We felt it would be completely different with young 4 year olds who may have been out of Nursery for 6 months by Sept and will need to play, share, chat and be active. So glad our Head has agreed though it was a bit of a debate. The Early years guidance was more helpful here than the schools guidance.
