SATS to go ahead "according to normal timetable"

So says the government guidance. So I have until May to get 30 Year 1s, of whom only 12 decided to return to school on 15th June, ready for SATS tests that were already very challenging to prepare for under normal school circumstances.

And I may need to do the phonics screening check that they missed from Year 1 too! The STA are still making a decision about that. Already thinking of leaving and looking for a job in a non-SATS class.

Oh yippee!!!

Said no teacher ever...

Seriously, WTAF????

I feel your pain Minnie. Y2 teacher here too.

This is impossible. Some of these children will have done little to nothing for months. Some will have forgotten everything. Some will be so traumatised and freaked out by being back in school so won't be ready to learn until a lot of support has been put in place.

So 2 terms essentially to cram in a year's worth of learning? What could possibly go wrong?

I despair....

I'm despondent about it. I'm in 6 again, with the lowest cohort ever, who will come back mostly feral. And my performance management will be on the bloody stupid pointlessly cruel sats. It is NOT fair on them. They need to be relearning year 5 content and carrying onto 6 throughout the year. It's doable - i usually finish year 6 content by end of March anyway. They do not need to beforced through the sats. And it is NOT fair on me.

But just what is the benefit of doing this?
So the Gov can say 'Oh yes, turns out that children who missed lots of learning aren't at age related expectations according to these pointless tests.'

Well, no surprises there then!

And they are end of Keystage tests not Y2 or Y6 specifically, so surely, as they have missed a fair chunk of the KS, they cannot possibly cover all the content and have therefore been set up to fail from the off!

It's despicable. Poor kids. Poor teachers. Fucking ridiculous.

And in the same guidance they dare to say that the well-being of pupils should be prioritised.

We have the Autumn Term to "catch up" apparently. Hmm. And yes to the ridiculous performance management side of things. Can't wait to see what targets they set me on September.

I bet they will expect them to reach age related expectations though!

Year 2 here too with our lowest cohort. Told our SLT to expect 1 or 2 to reach expected from what I've seen of them so far!!
