Which books on teaching/education/leadership would you recommend?

Hi,

We have a new head who seems keen on educational books and keeps asking what staff have been reading recently. I’m ashamed to admit that since my training days (10 years ago!) I haven’t read any. Does anyone have any recommendations with what to start with? Many thanks.

I'm primary. Recently (over last 2 years), I've read (or read bits of):

Mind Maps for Kids - Tony Buzan
The Curriculum: Gallimaufrey to coherence - Mary Myatt
The Writing Revolution - Hochman and Wexler
The teaching stuff in Vocab Ninja and Comp Ninja - Andrew Jennings
Closing the Vocabulary Gap - Alex Quigley
A load of stuff for NASENCO, anxiety specific.
Rosenshine...
Why Don't Students Like School - Daniel Willingham

Lots of people rate:

Teach Like a Champion
Reading Reconsidered
Closing the Reading Gap
10% Braver

But I've not read them. Yet. I have Closing the Reading Gap.

Best bits of CPD I've done recently though, are on Seneca learning - the cognitive stuff and the dual coding particularly.

Rosenshine seems to be the flavour of the day.
Sam Strickland’s Education Exposed and the new Michaela book on Culture are getting good reviews, too.

Thank you penorpencil. I was looking at the Michaela book on Amazon earlier, it I don’t think they teach drama so I’m not sure I like them 😂

Essential Questions by Jay McTighe. Excellent book for any age or subject.

You could look at the blog Smart Classroom Management. If his writing appeals to you, you could get one of his books.

Brené Brown is a good read too. She doesn't write specifically for teachers but there's lots that you could apply to your teaching.
