You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff. Baiters and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

You can play here only if you are a member of one the following groups-

-ABBA - anti bashers and baiting association
-SWAB - school workers against bashers
-SWOT - school workers opposing teacherbashers
-STARS - schoolworkers together against ranting + slurs

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the toffee vodka is hidden.

If you are fed up with cakes and biscuits there is now a cheeseboard on offer

If you come with a stick to beat us with then please do so elsewhere and not in the staffroom.

I bet about 10 of them turn up in total. Out of 104.

If I was a parent, I'd be off on holiday that week if I could afford it. I'd be taking my kid out of school right now to go away somewhere (even with quarantine). After 4th July it's going to be even more likely that there are suddenly trips to Spain going on.

HarveySchlumpfenburger · 23/06/2020 18:00

No sharing equipment has got to be the start of the next round of bashing threads. AIBU to think my child’s teacher has prevented them from learning and should have just given them a pen.

ChloeCrocodile · 23/06/2020 18:04

I think ours will mostly turn up. Almost all of the year 6s are coming in for transition day.

TheHoneyBadger · 23/06/2020 18:17

Well then I guess we can expect outbreaks and closures come autumn term. It’s still going to be around in September and we’ll be packed in like sardines.

We’re going to just let it run rife again unless the nhs is close to being overwhelmed.

It makes me really sad to think how long it’s going to be till it’s safe for my son and parents to spend time together like they used to. He generally stops over once a week and has the little box room as his Sad Had the awful thought that one of them might die before having the chance to cuddle their grandchild again.

Unless they or we manage to get antibody tested and are proved to have had it it won’t be safe. Not if we’re in school and exposed to so many people

noblegiraffe · 23/06/2020 18:25

What about the summer holidays, Honey? If you’ve had a few clear weeks from being in school and are symptom free could they see him?

MsAwesomeDragon · 23/06/2020 18:35

The summer holidays does seem to be the best option honey. Make sure all parties have quarantined for 2 weeks to make sure you are all symptom free, then go for it. Have some proper time with them, once you are sure you don't actively have it. That's what I'm planning with my parents. We saw them this weekend actually, socially distanced in an outside space, but they adored being able to see dd, even though they weren't able to hug her (she didn't speak, because she's got selective mutism and has regressed over lockdown 🤦, but she did smile at them and laugh at their jokes)

ChloeDecker · 23/06/2020 18:51

I fear you are right RafaIsTheKingOfClay

Although I think that the TB threads will never really end to be honest!

Dinodora · 23/06/2020 18:51

I'm sorry Scottish peeps. It seems really soon Sad

fuckweasel · 23/06/2020 19:29

@Dinodora I was feeling ok about going back in August until today. I'm in the clinically vulnerable group and was appeased by the robust risk assessment in place. Now, my anxiety is through the roof again. We have three days of term left and then one INSET at the start of term to put into place whatever plan is decided. Not happy today.

Appuskidu · 23/06/2020 19:32

Omg, the TB are out tonight-have just opened three threads and reported all of them.

After a long, hot, shitty day at school, it depresses me that still, despite everything we’re doing, loads of people still think we are doing fuck all, should be furloughed and should be forced to work through our (we’re not bringing in the harvest any more so why do they even exist) summer holidays!

I really really hate it.

Mistressiggi · 23/06/2020 19:54

I am thinking, it's important that pubs and schools open in tandem and teachers will need to go and get pissed on a Friday more than ever.

Butmiss · 23/06/2020 20:11

Apparently it's our fault if the NHS gets overwhelmed with a second peak and if parents gets burnt out over the summer. Confused Said by an NHS worker. Because teachers working for 6 extra weeks won't lead to anything bad, will it!

pinkrocker · 23/06/2020 20:25

New Sept timetable for returning to "normal" is out for me and the subjects I thought I was teaching I'm now not, glad I didn't buy the books Grin is this what happens usually? Of course if we're back FT that is, if not, who knows.
DD (Y9) has just been told she's in for 2 hrs a week from July, DS (Y7) has been given 2 days a week from next week, I haven't a clue how or where they're putting them all. But my 2 seem happy to go back? Looking forward to my Y6 bubble tomorrow, hope it's not too hot for them..I shall not be chatty with them, they may have to work. (she says!)
@Appuskidu I went on my PC and hid all topics that are inflammatory. MN is a place of DIY and style and beauty for me now, quite peaceful. I would seriously recommend we do this as like you guys, I was winding myself up reading the TB. And reporting and getting nowhere.

WhyNotMe40 · 23/06/2020 21:03

What does TB stand for in this context? I've had a mini MN break and feel I've missed something,

ineedaholidaynow · 23/06/2020 21:07

Teacher bashing I presume

noblegiraffe · 23/06/2020 21:14

Talking about TB, I saw on edutwitter people trying to get Tom Bennett cancelled as a racist or something.

WhyNotMe40 · 23/06/2020 21:20

@ineedaholidaynow

Teacher bashing I presume
Ah I should have guessed that!
ohthegoats · 23/06/2020 21:48

Anyone ever use a teacher planner?

I use a Pukka Pad with all my notes in - can move the dividers around, like the sections etc. But that means I also have a diary, which I nearly always lose/don't use, and therefore miss dates.

I know I'm a luddite having it all on paper, but there you go.

AppleKatie · 23/06/2020 22:05

I’m obsessed with my planner I can’t function without it- to the ridicule of the rest of my department. It has pretty colours and a system only I can understand. It’s still in use everyday, essential even when remote teaching.

ohthegoats · 23/06/2020 22:09

What is it?

I don't want to spend ££ on a twee one with motivational messages in it, but I do like all the things those ££ ones have in them - they do cover everything!

I used to use one properly, but it's drifted and I've drifted as a result. I haven't put anything in a diary since before Christmas, the pukka pad is turning into a disaster now too - notes everywhere, all mixed up.

pinkrocker · 23/06/2020 22:09

Whynotme40 yep, teacher bashing.

AppleKatie · 23/06/2020 22:24

Just a bog standard -A4 one of these from the teacher planner company
www.edplanbooks.com/product/the-teachers-planner-a5-size-wiro-bound/

Sorry if I was misleading it’s a pretty colour on the front and I write inside in a range of colours as the mood takes me 😂

I’m lucky as work pays for it each year. I even managed to smuggle an extra one out of the stationary cupboard for a friend one year - she was working in a school where it was strictly buy your own!

StaffAssociationRepresentative · 23/06/2020 22:40

My teacher planner is beautifully filled in up to Christmas then it is a downhill slide. I tend to 'lose' it at Easter and make a good show of 'looking for it'. Summer term is a load of post-it notes on the wall.

Rosieposy4 · 23/06/2020 22:49

I want the perfect planner
a) 6 lesson days, b) single page to a day, c) dates prepopulated and a cool cover
Have used pirongs but they fail on Either b or c even with their unique range
Used a Sheffield firm last year ( can’t remember name off top of head) but cover very ordinary

ohthegoats · 23/06/2020 23:02

I've just seen one where you can arrange it how you like.

I LIKE the pages in the positive teacher company ones, but I don't want twee fonts or messages. I use their whole class feedback pad, which is great. Someone bought that for me though.
