Bubbles...have my school got this right or wrong?

I'll try to be brief.
We have a key worker and vunerable kids bubble that currently are located in the hall.
I am working in this bubble every other week.
There has been a family send their 3 kids to this bubble, I think it's debatable whether they should have been there in the first place but that's another story and I can't moan about that anymore!
Anyway...as of this week one of the kids is going in the year 1 bubble group B so one week on and one week off. They are still intending on sending their 2 other kids every day into the key worker bubble groups A and B.
Does this not constitute a mix of bubbles?
I think I must be being really dim as at this point I can't really see the point in having these bloody bubbles....

We've put the KW kids who are in R,1 or 6 back in with their year groups - even though we are doing week on week off. They are going to stay with their year group in both weeks - so, possibly a repeat week. Risk considered lower for kids than adults, the parents were involved in the decision.

I didn't know if it was the norm and found it a bit hard to get my head round until I then thought of the families that have say a kid in year 1 and in year 6... I guess they'll be mixing at home so probably no different.

Well my dc go to my school. I have my own bubble I’m teaching, then they are both in separate key worker bubbles (ks1 & ks2). So as a family we mix 3 bubbles.

One of my dc is in a year group going back but not allowed to join that bubble as he is already in the key worker bubble. That’s sad for him as he won’t get to see many of his friends but I understand why it has happened (& I needed to childcare earlier than his year group bubble returned).

I don’t think there’s any perfect solution and the situation you describe sounds ok to me - mixing bubbles through siblings is probably pretty much inevitable really.

The problem with bubbles is they are a good idea but realistically going to be mixed as soon as you have siblings or teachers.
Im a teacher and work in a secondary key worker bubble. This is different staff everyday.
Ds is in yr 1 so in a bubble and his sister nursery so another bubble.
So 3 bubbles mixing everyday.

At ds's school they are putting key worker children back in their yr group bubble where they can but then not switching them about.
I dont think there is a perfect solution.

Why are you doing 'week on/week off' in year 1 out of curiosity? I thought there was to be no part time? (I'm not knocking it by the way...I think it's an ok solution and should have been adopted in the first place!)

The bubble is just for track and trace to stop the virus spreading

Potentially the child will, if became ill, have to isolate his own bubble plus the siblings b it it stops there - unless anyone in the VC/KW children become unwell then your bubble is isolated

IndecentFeminist · 11/06/2020 19:49

I'm in one bubble, and each of my kids is in another. 🤷‍♀️

GreenTulips · 11/06/2020 20:45

I’m in a bubble 3 kids all in bubbles

If one is near a CV outbreak then we will all have to isolate via proxy

It means the rest of school can crack on

We are secondary, but the plan from next week is Key Worker students in Y10 will join their bubbles when they are having a "taught" session. Teachers are also moving between taught bubbles. I do think this sort of defeats the point of bubbles BUT it seems like it's all within DfE guidance.

I think the problem comes if a teacher tests positive, as you then potentially have quite a lot of people having to self isolate!

AFIAK it is allowed, just not the preferred option- I think some schools have said it's part time or nothing, so they are doing part time!

Plenty of schools did decide to go with a rota as it was the most sensible decision for their setting. It does now mean that these schools are more likely to have the capacity to bring back some more children.
