Is anybody due to start a PGCE?

I’m due to start my primary PGCE (schools direct route) in September. Feeling quite apprehensive about how the course is going to look because of social distancing...

I’m a TA and still working with key worker groups currently.

Is anyone else in the same position? How are you feeling?

I am! I work as a TA at the moment and have been in throughout with vulnerable children. I'm starting my SCITT at a new school in September, have never visited the school and interviewed over zoom!!

I'm excited for the new challenge but I am nervous about the future! Do you know your hear group yet? X

Hi! I’m staying at the school I’m at currently, usually trainees teach Y6 so I assume I will too. I’ll have to brush up on some subject knowledge. Do you know what year group you’ve got? Did you get a good feel for the new school?

Same position, not been told of school or year group yet. No idea how next year will look, no idea if my own children will be back at school. Also need to hand in my notice as current school want to advertise my post.

Feeling quite anxious about it all. I mean what a year to pick!

Have just read this on Twitter schools week article link

I have a school direct place for September in the primary school where I'm currently working as a TA. I did ask the HT if my place could be affected and he said no.

I am really looking forward to it, just got an email from the university with some info.

What are the uni saying @MsJuniper?
I am reading so much about how schools will not be re opening as normal even in September. I feel really up in the air and not at all excited. The thought of having to leave my job is so scary if everything falls through this year.

They sent a date for an online meeting and some forms to complete beforehand. There were also some reading lists to start on. It sounded very positive although it's not clear yet whether my university days will be online or not.

I am also worried that this is not over and we may see a second closure later in the year. My school has been very proactive about lockdown and we've been running a full time online programme so I am fairly confident I would be able to continue either way, although there are lots of things still unknown with regard to assessment. It's hard to plan childcare at the moment too.
