When you come home from work...

Just wondering when you come home from work are you going to decontaminate as it were?
I am a TA and we have been advised when we come home from work, the washing machine door should be open, take clothes off and put them in open washing machine (don't close door). Have shower, come down and close washing machine door and wash clothes.
Anyone going to do this?

There is some advice about it in this link. I think that's where it's come from. Infection rates are still so high at the moment, it's pretty likely we will come into contact with it (8000 a day catching it in England currently).

Dr Matt Butler has been giving advice to NAHT members. If you look up coronacast there is a good video where he talks about practical steps you can take to reduce risk. He is ICU CV special post from Addenbrooks.

On clothing he said risk is low as the virus doesn’t do well on rough surfaces, but it is a good idea to change when you get home. You can wash as you suggest, but he said what he and his wife, also a doctor, do is have a bag where clothes go for a couple of days before being put back in the wearing cycle. Don’t hang with other clothes was his advice.

I do follow the advice to wash clothes immediately and shower immediately before seeing my kids. I'm in a special needs school so mo social distancing.

We've been advised to do exactly this with our kids after they've been to school too.

Thanks both. I think I will play it safe then.

I have been in school on a rota with the keyworker/vulnerable/ehcp children all the way through.

Straight to the shower when I get home, then all clothes and towels into the washing machine.

My DC have learned, no hugs until after I am changed!

I've been coming in and taking clothes off in the hallway and putting them in a bag to wash a few days later. Then I shower and wash my hair. Recent guidance seems to be that this is unnecessary but it makes me feel more in control and also draws a line between work and home/ helps me to relax.

Once I've sorted myself out, I make a coffee and sit/ play/ chat with my kids. They've been at home and will remain at home as my husband works from home and I don't feel it is safe for schools to be opening more widely.

Honestly, I did that on my first day in with key workers’ children, but now when I get home from work I don’t really follow a decontamination routine...

I've been texting home when I leave work. They then put a pillow case in the porch, clean clothes in the bathroom and I strip off in the porch, put the clothes in the pillow case and then go and have a shower and wash my hair and put my work clothes in the washing machine with the towel. I leave my shoes in the car and anything I have taken to work (apart from my phone) stays in the car overnight. My phone is wiped down with anti-bac from a local distillery!) as is my car steering wheel, door handle and gear lever at the same time as I do my hands.

Like a PP, I have been working with medics children before half term, in half term we have all been off prior to re-opening to children tomorrow (which I came to The Staffroom to see if there was a thread about).

The nurse and supermarket worker in my house both have this routine and I’ll join them.
