Just that really. I'm a TA with children in years 3 & 5 and am being given no choice but to return and take my children with me as I'm a single parent or take unpaid parental leave. What are you all doing? 🙂

Yes due in on a rota system. My children are not in those years due in, so I'm trying to juggle with DH, or have them in the key worker bubble.

As You are a critical worker they’ll be entitled to be in school so there’s no reason for you not to be at work.

PickledWilly · 27/05/2020 20:36

On the flip side, why would they pay you if you are not coming into work? Your children are entitled to key worker places at their school, so you can go to work.

Our TAs who are parents have not been on the rota for key worker children, but they will be back in school when 'all' staff are back if they currently work in the year groups going back, or if they are required. I'm in year 3, my TAs have been put on the timetable for supporting year 1s and 6s. I'm still officially working from home doing online learning.

Ian expected back to work next week 8-2 which is my normal hours. My mum usually takes my boys to school but is shielding so that’s a no go and my children’s school keyworker care hours are 9.15-2.15 which is absolutely crap. Husband and eldest son are sharing the load next week but after that they are back at work. Not sure what we are going to do after that

Trying to avoid it. Mine are staying at home with DH luckily.
They won't be learning much at school anyway - it's mainly well being. No work will be marked or taken in so not really much benefit educationally for them to be in school

Why just TAs OP?

I’m a CT with two children primary aged. I’ll be in full time from tomorrow (have been in key worker rota throughout) and DC will stay with DH. God knows how he’ll manage as he’s currently working 13 hour days from home 😬 Home learning will be out the window so I’ll have to catch them up over the holidays.

I’d be entitled to send them to their school but not bring them with me to mine, so we decided it’s not worth the risk as 3x bubbles will increase our risk as a household. The effect on DH’s work and the amount of screen time my DC will get is a big worry though.

Coffee kisses I would assume it’s because a TA is low paid and tends to not have access to other childcare. I know that I personally choose to be a TA and take the low wage that comes with it so my children don’t go to childminder.

The TAs are coming in where I work, I know some of them have children who cannot go to school but they have had to arrange childcare for them.
