Are any of your schools prepared to return on the 1st and for how many year groups?

The news seems to suggest most schools won't be ready to open to more children. I just wondered how it is on the ground?

My DD's school has said they will open to only Reception initially and not have Y1 back untill further risk assessments are undertaken. Due to space they may not be able to have Y6 back atall.

The earliest they will be ready for Reception to return will be the 8th but it is still not clear if this is possible as the government has just released further guidance meaning plans and risk assessments will have to be changed (and this isn't the first time). It really sounds a very difficult prospect

My DC school is taking reception and year 1 from the 1st.

Year 6 from the 8th.

They say they can't take nursery at all (until further notice, no date given).

Are your classrooms big enough for 15 socially distanced children or will you need to split the classes further?

Our school is ready to invite all R, 1 and 6 children back from next Monday but we've decided to stagger, so Y6 Monday, y1 Wednesday and R Friday. We felt it wad important to give us a couple of days to work out what works and what doesn't before inviting more back.

Classrooms vary so between 12 and 8 per class; children spaced out near 2m and teachers with a strict 2m zone. This will be enough classrooms, because we are under subscribed and also know that some parents will definitely not send children back just yet.

We are taking R , year 1 and year 6 from next Monday. All years split into 2 groups. All with a teacher and TA.
We have done a detailed risk assessment and everyone is happy with it- looking forward to seeing the children x

Our school are taking year 6 only and not till 15th june they said the may consider taking year 1 later they won't entertain year r and nursery going back anytime soon and have said they may consider older years.

cassgate · 25/05/2020 21:18

I am a TA and our year 1 and 6 are going back on the 1st with nursery and reception the week after.

careerchange456 · 25/05/2020 21:56

We're back on Monday with R, 1 and 6. Got told late last week that we'd have to arrange to come in this week to sort our classrooms and the rest of the school.

I imagine some schools opening on the 8th are allowing for a week to prepare classrooms and properly put systems in place, also probably a deep clean, without teachers having to do it in their week off.

We have year 6 back on 1st and reception and yr 1 back on the 8th. Four bubbles in each year group. Each bubble doing doing two days. No idea how there will be social distancing in Y6 as not enough room.

OK, now I’m annoyed.

I spent yesterday in school, setting up the two classrooms for my 30 year 6s. Clearing furniture, carpets, cushions, setting up trays with individual equipment, printing off posters and putting up one way signs and clearing the half ton of branches the wind has blown into the outside area by my classroom.

On the way home, I saw at least 4 of my class and their families in the park, all playing together and picnicking, not a social distance in sight.

Would your HT be prepared to put out a firm message to families?
My DS is in a PRU so it's a bit different but the HT has put out firm messages about behaviour outside school in the past; and they are prepared to exclude any child who uses coughing or spitting as aggression. I also had cause to tell school that we saw two Y1/YR children being put in a car outside school without a car seat; again school had a word on grounds of safety.

I know dangerous behaviour on school grounds by parents (in the past it would be fighting obviously but now it could include either similar aggression, or refusal to socially distance) could also result in parents not being allowed to drop off pupils.

This would seem to be a similar situation - child behaving unsafely (even if it is the parent's fault) out of school meaning it's not safe for them to be in school.

I saw two probable- Y6s (though DS who I was with didn't recognise them as being from DD school that he used to go to), though possibly they are Y7s, walking together and clearly not sisters nor socially distancing, yesterday.

At my school and also at my dds (year 1) they are not opening further until the 8th. (I'm not sending her back anyway)

We are closing on each weds for cleaning and ppa

Wait4nothing · 26/05/2020 16:53

My school opening to 2 requested years first (further 2 are planned but no dates yet, staggered to check plans work). Was 1st but pushed back to 8th earliest depending on LEA. Closed Wednesday for cleaning, PPA and home school preparation.

funmummy48 · 27/05/2020 07:21

We’re opening to Nursery, Reception Yr1 on 1st for 3 days, then swapping to 3 days for Yr 6. We’re sticking to rotating these groups. 1st & 2nd June will be spent getting the school ready and ensuring that everyone understands how it’s going to work. We’re all very happy with the plans and ready to return.

Glad there are lots of plans in place. My DD is in Y3 so I think it is unlikely she'll go back this term but I'm hoping for even a day or 2 to see her teacher again and some of her classmates.
