Part time advice

Does anyone know where I can find DfE guidance on part time staff when schools open for more children?

I don't know the answer- sorry- but I imagine that you should be working your usual days, either in school, or from home if on one of the vulnerable lists. That's what we are doing at my school.

Same as my school

Why should your days change? I mean I suppose they could change them year to year but not different arrangements week to week!

stdmumihope · 23/05/2020 11:27

There should be guidance. I have been on rota on my day off for several weeks now.

Mistressiggi · 23/05/2020 13:00

I don't think there needs to be, your contact hasn't changed - if you are on rota on a day off, did you ask for it to be changed?
I've been doing work at home on days off but only because I can't always manage enough on the days on as dealing with dc.

Are you part of a union OP? If so, look on their website. There's always info available there for part time members of staff!

Sewingbea · 24/05/2020 19:19

And if you're not in a union now might be a good time to join...

Yes indeed!

You're still employed under your normal t&c so should be working those days/hours. If you're in a position to be flexible about switching days off, you may do so, but you don't have to make yourself available on your regular days off. I have one day off each week but this week was asked to attend a meeting on that day, right in the middle of the afternoon so it prevented me from doing what I'd planned with my own DC. I just emailed the head and said I'd like the previous afternoon off instead - it was fine.

At this point I think it's all about sensible communication with school and SMT.

If you want to keep your contracted days off, I sure you are entitled to them. If you are happy to be flexible or something different to usual would work better, clearly communicating this would be a good idea. Being friendly and having positive discussions is always helpful.

If school put you on rotas that don't fit with your way of working etc, definitely speak up. Again, always good to do it cheerily and not aggressively. It might well be that they made an error and forgot your normal working pattern amongst all the stuff going on.

I'd think most things can be worked out to everyone's satisfaction. Never good to be a martyr and never good to be aggressive. Being willing to be a little bit flexible now and again, if that's possible for you often builds goodwill and means if you need a bit of flexibility at some point, you're more likely to get it too.

Just communicate.

To be fair, I have never found this to be the case.
Agree with the rest of your post.
