Are face masks and visors that bad?!

Is anyone else considering wearing a visor/face mask on return? I thought it was a complete no go but I know of several schools locally who have said staff will be doing so. I get the whole can’t see your mouth/ communication thing with the face masks but surely with a see through visor this wouldn’t be such an issue? There is evidence to suggest the visors do offer some protection to the wearer as opposed to masks which predominantly protect the non-wearer. They have them in our local supermarket (as I’m wearing them not to sell!) I can see benefits in terms of raising my confidence at being back in class but anyone I’ve mentioned it to (non teaching friends and family) have been horrified as they think it’s unfair or scary to the children 🙄 (I’m a reception Teacher btw) Just wondered what people’s thoughts were?

Meh I think kids will have a lot of changes to get used to. One more wont break anything

Some of us are planning on wearing visors. The school has ordered them

0ellenbrody0 · 23/05/2020 13:31

Our local secondary tech dept has made us all visors and head has ordered masks. I will wear a visor as are most of my colleagues and a mask too in some circumstances. KIds will get used to it

My school has said no masks or visors - we will be in trouble if we wear them.

In contrast, my friend's school are buying visors and aprons etc for the staff.

My SLT are assholes.

I think it will scare the children and make then think that school is not safe.

phlebasconsidered · 24/05/2020 09:11

That's fair enough though - because it is not safe. Anyone who thinks it is is lying to themselves. What isn't safe is having students think it's hilarious to "corona cough" in class when you're in front of them without any ppe.

Danglingmod · 24/05/2020 09:23

My MAT and SLT are pretty good and caring re most aspects but I think are going to go down the no mask or visors allowed route. Bit pissed off if that happens (dh is shielded category).

PenOrPencil · 24/05/2020 14:32

My SLT have said they will not be providing PPE but they will not stop teachers wearing masks.

BuggerOffAndGoodDayToYou · 24/05/2020 16:53

Our school has said no masks or visors and gloves should ONLY be worn if giving essential first aid. If child is not in danger we should be instructing them on Giving themselves first aid and maintains social distance where possible.

Another social media group for uks2 teachers I am on has a survey going. LEA's are most definitely coming out better in terms of allowing and providing ppe. Academy schools not. Because it costs to protect your staff.

funmummy48 · 27/05/2020 07:36

We have masks available if anyone wants them but no staff member is keen. We also have masks and gloves for giving first aid.
