SMT or SLT?

This is a slightly random question but I'm interested in hearing responses.

In your school, do you refer to the SMT or SLT?

Is there a difference?

Do you have both?

Also, are you in primary or secondary?

We were SMT and switched to SLT when new head arrived.... Primary.

For any particular reason, or just his/her personal preference?

SLT. Secondary. Never been anything otherwise.

TheFallenMadonna · 01/05/2020 17:08

Senior teachers love the word leadership.

Clarabellawilliamson · 01/05/2020 17:30

I think there has been a shift towards slt. Lots of the leadership training I have done is really focussed on the distinction between leadership and management. I personally think you need a balance of the two...

SLT for the inner circle, SMT to include SENCO etc. (primary). Current school too small to have either!

IamChipmunk · 02/05/2020 22:23

SLT, large secondary school.
Never heard it called SMT i dont think and ive been teaching 15yrs.

AhComeOnNow · 02/05/2020 22:27

Ours is:
SLT is head, deputy, assistant heads
SMT is head, finance manager, premises manager and extended school (Before and after school club) manager

SMT

With a brief period under a batshit head who decided we needed both.

Once she was gone we reverted back to SMT.

eldeeno · 02/05/2020 22:30

SLT

Secondary teacher, taught for over 20 years never heard it called anything other than SLT.

Mistressiggi · 02/05/2020 23:20

Used to be SMT, now SLT as we're all modern.

I always thought Leadership was a cop out, enabling Leaders to do no active management but to spout platitudes and launch initiatives instead. But I’m old and cynical.

BluebellSurprise · 03/05/2020 09:23

SLT bugs me because I'm a Speech and Language Therapist and we were always known as SLTs. Now we're SALTs as we had our acronym stolen 😂

Chosennone · 03/05/2020 09:25

SLT
Sometimes SLG (group)
They were SMT around 20 years ago

There’s quite a big difference between leadership and management. I’d be concerned if leaders were only managing and not leading.
