Struggling!

I have been teaching at home for the final 3 weeks of last half term (25 weeks pregnant so was told to stay away by my head the week before the lockdown). All of our lessons are live. Back to school yesterday for full inset online and started teaching today. It takes longer to plan, marking takes longer but all fine so far. My husband works in construction so has been at home to look after our 1 year old. However he goes back to work on Monday and will be out from 6am to 5.30pm. He has to as he is self employed so no income for 5 weeks has already his hard and no government support until June. The school has set the expectation of at least 1 live lesson per week per group taught, 2 for 6th form. As I teach an option subject the max lessons I have a week is 3, 2 in lower school. So pretty much at least half the lessons. Have tried to explain this isn't really possible, have offered to record lessons and upload etc. As alternatives. No gained time due to gcse and a level groups leaving as we have been told we have to plan and deliver a transition course for yr11, and teach 'something' to upper 6th. Middle management role, so still doing social worker calls, welfare calls to children etc. Have no idea how I will do this in the hour my baby sleeps and evenings, I normally have to work every evening, as many teachers do just to keep up anyway. I know many are in worse positions, just feel a bit sorry for myself today, and if anyone has any advice on how to do everything, greatly appreciated!

What did your school say when you told them that it wasn't possible and offered to record and upload lessons instead?

No advice - just sympathy. I think your experience is being mirrored up and down the country, particularly for teachers in independent schools (are you in an independent?). My DC are adults but I am finding the remote teacher much harder work to plan and deliver. I was teaching online for 6 hours yesterday and was exhausted. With a child to care for as well, I think it is almost impossible Sad

they haven't really said anything, my worry is even doing this is unachievable to be able to keep up, between the increased marking load and recording lessons plus additional planning. Im scared there are not physically enough hours in the day to get it done! Yes I'm independent. It is really draining I agree, it completely exhausts me.
